Subnets for Residential

What are some applications of a subnet or ip range /29 for isps offering a service for residential folk under ipv4?

Do individuals with this requirement need it for some geeky things like running multiple instances of the same service? Do they use it to segment their Network?

You can use it to run a web server or whatever needs to exposed with an individual public ip address. It's the equivalent of 6 usable ip addresses.

  • Yes, mostly for geek stuff. Web Server, Plex, CCTV, NAS, Minecraft Server, Home Automation, etc. (^ there 6 IPs for different uses)
On another note, it irks me sometimes reading the news saying 4G/5G will replace NBN/fixed line making it obsolete, because in my head, no, nope, you can't port forward 4G/5G (ISP restriction, not enough IP for everyone).
