[PS4] Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain $7.99 @ PlayStation

140

Enjoy :)

Taking place nine years after the events of MGSV: Ground Zeroes and the fall of Mother Base, Snake a.k.a. Big Boss, awakes from a near decade-long coma. The game resumes the story in 1984, with the Cold War still as the backdrop, which continues to shape a global crisis. Snake’s journey takes him into a world where he is driven by a need for revenge and the pursuit of a shadow group, XOF. METAL GEAR SOLID V: The Phantom Pain continues to ambitiously explore mature themes such as the psychology of warfare and the atrocities that result from those that engage in its vicious cycle. One of the most anticipated games of the year with its open-world design, photorealistic visual fidelity and feature-rich game design, MGSV: The Phantom Pain will leave its mark as one of the hallmarks in the gaming industry for its cinematic storytelling, heavy themes, and immersive tactical gameplay.

  • the best metal gear game. I am still playing it a year after I started.

    • I'm not sure if you're being sacarstic, or if this game is genuinely this good.

      • It's good, but I've got it as a free game from PS Plus. That somehow made me less keen on playing through the game quickly.

      • Really still a great game. Quality game

Some of the best gameplay this gen but it stops there… story, pacing and progression are terrible.

It’s open world but it’s the same few camps over and over and over.

You literally spend 15-20% of the game riding in a helicopter.

    Ending is crazily undercooked.

For $8 it’s worth a few hours of gameplay I wouldn’t try to finish it to the end.

I respect your opinion but this game is one of the best games ever made. Ever snuck up on a bear and parachute launch it into the air to see it's confused Face. It Tries to attack you and then be a helpless Flop before it shoots up in the air with a sad panda Face.

None of the other mgs really ever gelled with me but i really enjoyed mgs v. Finished it 3 times since release.

  • Loved this game, played it and loved it thoroughly in March and April this year. Amazing economy in the game, great characters and story.

  • I know, Konami bad yada yada yada, but this game is awesome.

I was never a big fan of MGS and the type of game it is, but I enjoyed it a lot. I put in a little over 200 hours in about six, seven weeks, getting an S rank on all missions, completing all objectives.

$8 to keep you entertained for more than 100 hours.

    • Konami is great, PES is great too

  • Counterpoint to all the people liking it.
Intro is the most worst thing I've ever seen in any game or movie. Requiring the highest level of 'suspension of disbelief' you have to "explain" stupid things that happen and even then it still seeming supremely stupid, and not even in a silly fun way.
And dont get me wrong i like stupid entertainment, like kung pow, bad 90s action movies etc. This intro just outstrips all of those by far.

Gunplay also feels kinda bad, even playing on PC with a high frame rate. Compared to most recent 3rd person shooting games i've played, the division, anthem, ghost recon wildlands, mass effect andromeda.

I have seen some fun looking things you get to do further in the game (almost seeming like silly/fun you get in a GTA or Just cause), but 1 hour into playing after the intro and i couldnt take any more. Absolutely nothing by then had even remotely hooked me at all.

Still for $8 if you really need a 3rd person open world game it might be worth a try (but i'd strongly recommend ANY of those 4 i mentioned above first instead if you haven't played them, at least 3 of them can be gotten just as cheap as this).

    • I didn't enjoy this game either. It has some addictive gameplay loops, but it's extremely repetitive, and I lost interest and gave up after about 30 hours.

      • Yeah i had heard that too.
When The start is bad, i dont find anything that hooks me, and then i heard the few good bits got repetitive quick. Yeah i quit ASAP

Same here. Found this game a chore to play and first MGS I couldn't/didn't finish.

      • Same bit disappointed, couldnt take the annoying helicopter flights over and over

    • Quite a few cut scenes simply keep on remind you that this is a Kojima game (and does get annoying after a while - but you can skip if you want). MGS V is the first MGS I've ever played. I did see my friend played MGS III way back and at that time, it looked quite fun.

It was free on PS Plus Nov 2017 and both this and Ground Zero were available on GamePass. Essentially, people own a console for 2 years or more would have the opportunity to play this game free. For a lousy gamer like me, my main gripe is the difficulty level and if you messed things up in the game (for hopeless gamer like me, those things happen a lot), there is often no alternative way to fix/continue, other than reloading a save game prior to the mistake was made.

For $8, you need to be pretty good at 3rd person stealth type game. It was free for me so I did get some fun out of it.

  • Great game that never disappoint. you may think that it’s old storyline or old this and that. Back then still great, you can’ really compare it to your favourite game of the year. It’s the one for the fans, definitely worth every penny

  • Wouldn’t the definitive experience be better value at 12 bucks??
