[VIC] Melbourne Airport T1234 Parking $7 for 2.5 Hours (Online Booking Hack)

2650

Been a year since this deal was posted and a great reminder on how to score 2.5 hours of parking at Melbourne Airport for just $7 across all 4 terminals. Enjoy :)

(1) Book in advance and pay $7 for 30 minutes. Then…
(2) You may arrive up to one hour before your booked entry time. If you arrive earlier than one hour before your booked entry time, you will be charged at drive-up rates.
(3) There is a one hour grace period for exit after your booked exit time. If you exit more than one hour after your booked exit time, you will be charged for the time beyond one hour after your booked exit time at Melbourne Airport’s Overstay Tariff Car Park rates.

    Nice find!

  • Didn’t know this included all terminals. Thanks!

  • still works? legend!

    • +9

How to close it though? No one will book online if they aren't given a grace period on entry and exit without additional fees unless the car park significantly reduce the penalty rates for exceeding the time limit.

      • +1

I'd hope not. Can't imagine that many people popping down to the airport for 2.5 hours for a quick shop.

      • +1

Easy. Once in, count the timer for paid minutes only. The entry and exit should still be within one hour of in/out time or else charge as per drive-in parking rates.

    • +4

Highly doubt it. Hence the "deal" being posted today 12 months after the last one.

  • Does it work with valet parking?

    • Yes , one hour grace period before and after your booked time..

  • Does the grace period apply for SYD airport as well?

    • +12

Hang on, I'll fly there and check.

      • +16

        You’ve got 2.5 hours. Go!

  • -6

Your "booked" time starts when you enter…so if you enter an hour prior to your booked time, your 30 mins start then. You have that one hour grace period to exit. That makes it 1.5hours, not 2.5.

I have tried this with one hour booking and exited the car park within 2 hours. It works..

    • +5

Not true. Used this 3 weeks ago and stayed 2 hours 20 minutes at no extra charge.

      • +1

Me too, stayed more than one and half hours on Tuesday no extra charge.

      • Is it automated by the boom-gates? Or have to see someone

    • +2

Having used it recently, I did stay for a bit over 2 hours (on a half hour booking) and was only charged the $7.

      For 1/2hr you get 2.5hrs.

Wish other airports had this. I looked at Brisbane Airport T&Cs and they dont mention anything clearly even though there is a grace period. Would be good to know, if anyone knows.

  • Thanks TA. Just need to go there next month.

  • Yes need it for next month. Thanks TA! Also needed it last month, but net cost is still less😆

  • -3

I normally park at the MacDonald or the short term parking area (20-30 mins free)

    Great Deal!

  • Thanks TA! wish I had known about this when I went to drop off my sister and we all needed a little longer to say our goodbyes :(

    • +2

      isa no gooda…

    • -3

If you really cared about saying goodbye, having to pay extra wouldn't have made a difference.

      • +3

My sister's 5 years old. There was no way we would just have dropped her off and left. She was clinging to me and didn't want to go back home and my 3 kids were in tears :( We stayed until boarding was closed.
We paid $24 (?) instead of $7 , which is not very ozbargainy.

  • Isn't this the normal price?

    • +4

Yes the normal price is $7 for half an hour.
The hack tells you how to stretch the $7 to 2.5 hours

  • Good reminder OP. I used this hack a week ago and parked for 2 hours and 10 minutes for just $7. Makes the drop off and pick ups at airport so convenient now :)

    • +7

It's a "hack", showing you how to get up to 5x more for the same money.

    • +7

If you think 2 parts is bad, you should see the McDonald’s “hacks”….

      • +3

That too posted by the guy above. lol.

        • Hahaha, what the hell?

    • +5

You should take note. This is an actual hack. Your McDonalds ‘hacks’ are not.

  • Love this "hack" and have used it a number of times. Works perfectly every time!

  • Any long term Melbourne airport parking deals? Looking for October

  • -2

Someone in WP shared his life hack. You drop off your guests at the airport drop off area then go to the McDonalds that is a minute or two away. Park there, then catch a bus to the airport. A bus runs every 5 minutes. When it's time to leave, you catch a bus back to McDonalds, get your car, and return to the airport to pick up whoever is left if applicable. This way you only pay the bus fare.

    • $4.40 per head

      • I always ask for just an ear.

screw the maccas customers, because your more important right?! :P

If they had any self respect, they'd dine somewhere decent.

        maccas customer parking only…

Buy a soft serve cone first.

        • If everyone is doin that macas will tow your cars. Customer parking.

          • @Seedy seed:

Buy a soft serve cone first.

"everyone" is not going to do it. Only creative people which are a minority.

            • -1

@lostn: There is nothing creative about copying other peoples ideas.

              • @Seedy seed: The person who came up with it is the creative one. The select few who know follow his lead and get the perks of his creativity and therefore are in the same in-group.

Everyone else will pay an arm and a leg for airport parking.

  • Thanks for reposting, had no idea

  • Does this work in Sydney airport too?

  • No, looks like it is only a Melbourne airport thing, but it might be just a tad cheaper to book online.

  • I have used this deal last time, it seems their systems at the exit gate does not really check the logic correctly, so you may get overcharged. Just contact them through email for refund if it happens..

  • This deal should be one of a few that should be emailed to new users when they sign up

  • Legend

Over up in NT there was huge public uproar when the council bumped the daily parking rate from $7 to $7.50 !!

  • Why do people actually need to do this? Usually if I'm picking someone up from the airport I'll just park at the nearest petrol station and then when I get the SMS I'll go to the pick up zone

    • For a "proper" meet and greet lol. I think that was what I saw on their ads.

    • There is a free 20 minute wait zone for this, and they have no issues if you leave and come back so you don’t need to pay

  • Not sure what I did wrong.

Booked for 10-10:30am this morning for $7.

    Entered carpark at 10;03.
    Left car park at 11:10.

Was charged $22 at exit gate.

Only thing I can think of is I inserted my cc on entry and tapped my card at exit gate.

There was a staff member standing there and I told him that I shouldn't have been charged due to the 1 hour grace period on exit. He laughed and said no such thing, it's a strict timing period and that I should have exited by 10;30 if that's what I booked.

    • Check your booking. Are you certain you booked today's date? Did you enter & exit with the same CC as your booking?

The terms re CC and entry/exit grace periods are clearly defined in section 7 on the link below…

      https://www.melbourneairport.com.au/Passengers/Terms-conditi…

The parking attendant is clearly wrong about prepaid bookings.

  • Heading there tonight. Booked for 6pm (as an insurance buffer on any passenger arrival hold-ups), will try arrive 5:15-5:30pm.

Only taking the one card, so there's no risk of otherwise stuffing it up.

In the lucky event I somehow get in and out of there quickly, guessing I'm okay to leave before the starting time of 6pm? It only makes reference to leaving before the exit time, and while naturally the entry time is before the exit time, wondering if it might otherwise screw the process?

    • +1

Wasn't there long enough to test out the full 2.5 hrs but it did get me over an hour, so, success as far as I'm concerned.

  • Used over 2 times in past 4 weeks. Excellent find.

  • nice find! booked for a parking in 5 days, will see how it goes. thanks

  • Don't make the same mistake I made. I did not spot the booking page uses 12 hour, rather than 24 hour clock. I ended up booking 11pm, instead of 11am. So I got charged the full drive up rate. Doh!.

  • seems expired. no more promotion or any code required?

  • looks like you need to bok more than a day in advance, otherwise sold out, so not that great if you are picking someone up from an international flight and want to check if the flight is on schedule first.

    • i was making a booking 10 days in advance, still no discount.

  • Still works; booked for later today, Terminal 4 only but that's just a short walk. TA you're a legend!

  • Can anyone confirm this method still works?

    • +1

I recommended this to a friend and he used it a week ago. He confirmed that it works.

      • Appreciate you letting us know! :D

  • Thanks for this TA….really appreciate it. Rocked up there tonight with a little trepidation but Bingo…..worked a treat. 7 bucks! Awesome.

  • I got stung trying this a while ago as the boom gate thinks that the credit card on your iphone (I assume also android) is a different one to the physical card so ended up prepaying and paying at the gate :(

    Otherwise great hack

  • Used this today. Booked 30 mins for $7, arrived 20 mins before and left 20 mins after the booking time. Just had to tap the credit card to get in and out.

  • +1

    it still works thanks TA

  • Any idea if this is still working?

    • Yep but $8 now

  • The rules seem to have changed now to allow up to 2 hour earlier arrival? Can someone confirm?

    See below from FAQ section:

"Can I enter the car park earlier or later than my confirmed booking time?

You may arrive up to two hours before your booked entry time. If you arrive any earlier than the time prior to two hours before your booked entry time, you will be charged at drive-up rates for your entire stay (noting that these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you will not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges. View Melbourne Airport’s drive-up rates.

You may enter a car park any time after your booked entry time, or exit a car park any time before your booked exit time, without incurring any additional fees. If you exit a car park before your booked exit time (as confirmed by Melbourne Airport via email), you will not be entitled to a refund or adjustment. There is a one hour grace period for exit after your booked exit time. If you exit more than one hour after your booked exit time, you will be charged for the extra time beyond one hour after your booked exit time at Melbourne Airport’s Overstay Tariff car park rates (noting that these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you will not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges. • Yes, looks like it is $8 for 3.5hours now.
