Got one last time around. For the price it is great phone.

  • Can this be used as personal wifi hotspot?
Can I use Kogan-branded SIM (Voda network)?

    • Check previous deals on this phone but I seem to remember someone saying they used kogan in it without unlocking. All android phones from the last few years have personal hotspot.

      • Can confirm this works with Lebara without unlocking. I guess the same for Kogan

        Thanks

Can confirm it works with Kogan without unlocking.

          • @littlepcat: Does it support carrier aggregation fo faster then 50mbs speed? Moto G5 plus doesn't for Kogan mobile.

            Please do a speedtest.net test.

Unlock codes on eBay seem to go for around $12. Solid price for a decent spec phone.

If you go on Vodafone live chat they will usually give you a free unlock code.

I've had success with 2 prepaid Vodafone phones this year.

      • Do you have a link for Vodafone live chat? I tried searching but no luck.

        • You have to go to the Vodafone contact page. After some time a live chat widget should appear. If not, scroll up and down the page and also refresh the page.

Can we use it with Vodafone overseas simcard without unlocking?

      Nope

Haven't tried for a few years now but if u ring the Telco (Vodafone in this case) & tell them u need to use the phone O/S, they will usually oblige & unlock it for you…

  • Possibly same deal as this. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/405561.
Some stores ran out of stock and couldn't be ordered online thus the expired.

    • That is correct, the deal was marked expired as they ran out of stock ran than the deal's date expiring.

My deal's original expiry date was 25th Dec as shown by the yellow tag.

how does this compare to the A12 chip

    • +2

It has Ray Tracing whereas the A12 does not.

Have been waiting for RT'ing on a mobile for a long time now. Makes all the difference when sms'ing someone

        • Oh yes, you will see the superior performance of initiating a call over an EGDE network when RT is enabled. Truly mind-blowing.

      • But only if you add Nvidia’s RTX 2080 card.

        • Does it not come built in?

    • +1

      It has wallet overheating protection.

  • Looking for a phone around this price for my 7yr old. She just wants it to play games. Would this phone be a good choice or is the other phones to be considered? Thanks in advance

    • +2

This would be more than enough. You could also get the $49 Telstra phone with free Google Home.

Android games don't generally strain a phone as much as web browsing does. Just don't expect it to do VR well.

I bought one for my 10yo last time it was on special. Yes, she plays Roblox and everything else she's into just fine. It's a great unit.

This phone can be updated to android 8.0 through OTA, FYI.

    • A Pie update was also announced for the 3 but no date given.

        I love pie.

  • Eastern suburbs Sydney stores don't seem to have any. I could be wrong though, sometimes they can't be bothered searching for them when you ask.

    No stock

  • Can be bought online for click and collect.

  • I bought this last time for the wife. Obviously nowhere near as good as the Xiaomi stuff. For some reason chrome runs very slowly, Firefox is much better. It's an okay phone for the price.

    • It it better than huawai? I bought a Y6 and it lasted 3 weeks before it died. (Got a refund thankfully). I bought one of these hoping it’s better build

    50 cents cheaper = 50 votes upper
    same phone @ $90 (Target) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/422129

58 now. We should get researches on Ozbargain to see how people behave.

  • Can someone please tell me if Pokemon Go can be installed on this phone? The game is very picky about phones and models it works on. Thx.

One more question please, will this have better performance/battery/screen than an old Samsung Galaxy S5, same, or worse?

    • +2

Worse raw performance, better software performance.
Battery would be way better on this than a old dead small battery in a power hungry Samsung.
As for the screen, the S5 new would be night and day better, though AMOLED can get pretty bad over time, so if its had long hours on high and serious burn in, maybe its not so good anymore.
Its still a $90 phone, it was never high-end so its cheap components.

Would you prefer a 2018 $14k new car? Or a 2003 Performance BMW? Depends on so many things, they arent even close to being the same thing….

You can get it on eBay from Target with additional eBay 5% off plus cash-back if click&collect is not available in your area for the phone. Free shipping if you have eBay plus.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Vodafone-Nokia-3-4G-Prepaid-…

    • Only available in store at Target now.

  • Spoke to my local store and they said they had 5 on order due in on 12 December, might pay to check with your local next week to see if they get stock in.

  • Check if you got email from gumtree. They are giving $20 off when buying on ebay. It is also free shipping from Target.

  • In stock at stores but the price went back up to $179
