By using the Return&Earn stations in NSW you also can get the $0.10 refund on each bottle once you've finished them. In theory bringing this down to $4.50 😊

    • +31

      This guy Ozbargains

    • Does the money come out of the return and earn station afterwards?

      • +1

It can either be deposited in to your Paypal account or the receipt can be taken to Coles/Woolies and they'll provide a cash refund at the checkout.

    • +2

you can also go into peoples recycling bins at night and collect their discarded bottles and get $0.10 refund

you'll never have to work again!

      • +1

Why I don't put the bottles in my recycling bin any more. Caught someone red-handed but the kicker was that she didn't pick up the mess that she created while rifling through my bin and I had to call her out on it …

        • +3

Next time put a bear trap in with your empty bottles. That’ll surely teach them a lesson.

        • i've literally never done this.

          $0.10 is $0.10

      • you can also go into peoples recycling bins at night and collect their discarded bottles and get $0.10 refund

Not really acceptable (likely illegal also to go into another persons bin). The problem is, if I saw someone going through my bin, how do I know they aren't seeking info, letters, mail etc for identity theft. Apparently some mail was stolen from my former neighbor, and had thousands stolen from her through the subsequent identity theft. I would not be accepting of someone going through my bins, I do put my mail in recycling after reading it, including mail from banking.

        • -4

argh. there's always one. username checks out as well. diddily.

i'd think that the giant bags with bottle like objects protruding from the bags accompanying said bin scab might give you a hint that they are not after your meaningless letterheads with your name and address.

if you're dumb enough to not shred your financial documents or anything with more than your name and address on it, you probably deserve what you get.

          diddily.

          • @[Deactivated]: Nobody deserves to be stolen from, that is the mentality of a theif. Hope you get arrested when caught tampering with other people's property. You actually do "deserve it" .

            • -3

@Flanders: hah the ignorance is strong with this one! FYI once you place your bin out on the kerb for collection, it is no longer your property. it belongs to the council. this is why councils frown upon bottle collectors.

technically, you're stealing from the council, but because the councils steal from us, i think it's ok. but i don't give them a damn cent anyway because it's factored into the price you pay for the bottles, cans etc.

the universe has a way of balancing these things out.

now back to church for you. isn't there a bible quote or something i can use to stop people from blatantly calling people thieves after they've made a joke (that you didn't get). thou shall not judge lest ye be judged …or something.

              • @[Deactivated]:

technically, you're stealing from the council, but because the councils steal from us, i think it's ok.

                Erm, what?

                • @Hybroid: Thieves will always try to justify their actions. Unfortunately.

              • @[Deactivated]: You clearly stated that people "deserve it" refering to being stolen from. That is clearly the mentality of a thief.
By your logic, if someones car parked on the street (street is council's property) , then it is OK to rifle through it. Well, it is not.
Btw, the person I know who was stolen from is an elderly pesnioner in her late 60's she does not "deserve it" because she didn't shred her mail DH.

                • -4

@Flanders: if you don't have the mentality of a thief then how are you supposed to protect yourself? i always think about what people can steal from me, so i can take appropriate measures. this is just common sense.

actually that's not my logic because you are now providing an example that is skewed from the original subject matter. a persons car is however their property. council bins are not. that said, if you leave your doors to your car unlocked then don't be surprised that someone will test them and steal from you. the world is full of thieves, and i am too now apparently!

unfortunately the elderly are often victims of scams and theft, mainly because they do not update their knowledge and street smarts and think of the possibilities. the police often issue warnings as do late night TV programs. if you isolate yourself from the world that much then you may as well transfer all your funds into that nigerian prince's bank account.

just love it how a joke can turn into wild accusations of thievery.

you must be the life of parties.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Your 'jokes' are hilarious… Blaming the elderly who lack knowledge on identity theft etc for being theived from. Claiming they "deserve it" .
You should give up your day job scavenging through trash, and become a comedian.

                    • -2

@Flanders: looks like you can't differentiate between the initial joke and follow up comments of me not caring about your alleged elderly neighbour who allegedly was a victim of identity theft because her mail was allegedly stolen.

your comments don't even seem to apply here, because you state that her alleged identity theft came from mail theft, not recycling bin theft. there is a great difference. i find it hard to believe identity theft would even be possible with the limited information provided in bank statements. looks like we're not getting the whole story here…

while we're on moral outrage. i also believe animals deserve to die because they taste good. mmmm bacon.

    • Username checks out

    • But then how much fuel are you using to get there and back, how much additional energy are you exerting to lift all those bottles?

At what point do you break even?

      • +3

Store them somewhere and return next time you go to the shops - no extra petrol involved. Work smarter not harder.

    • Have to deduct petrol expense of driving to one of those stations

  • -3

    Thanks. Got 6.

  • +3

Same price at Woolworths at the moment. I normally buy these at $5 when Coles or Woolworths have them on special.

    • +1

      $5.5 at woolworths atm.

      • My local Woolworths is $6.50.

  • +30

    Tap water💧 should be ok

    • +2

Always good to have a supply of bottled water stored away in case the tap gets shut off for some reason.

      • +5

Always good to have a few bottles or jugs of soothing cold tap water in the fridge too.

        • +1

If you often have a lot of empty space in the fridge one of the best things you can do is fill it up with bottles or jugs of water (or cans of food or empty jars or stones or bricks - anything to replace all that easily lost cold air).

      • -2

Last time my tap stopped working…… Nope never happened.

      • +9

Though I dislike the taste of my local tap water, I would say its arguably better for you than bottled water

      • +2

Only if the turd hasn’t been removed from it.

    • +4

But bottled water makes my bank account grow

  • +5

Bought 20 of these, thanks OP

I will enjoy downing the bottled water knowing that I've contributed to my daily carbon output by having bottled water delivered to my home.

    • +2

And likely in an oversized Amazon box ;)

    • +8

Plastic bottles - one of the greatest polluters of the earth, after plastic shopping bags!!
Tap water in Australia is generally the best free water in the world.
Crazy to pay for something so stupid.

      • Bottles don't pollute earth - humans pollute earth.

        • +4

          sorry, mean't 'pollutants'

        • Bottles don't pollute earth - humans pollute earth.

Also the water therein doesn't get drunk .. it is the people humans that get drunk.

          • -1

            @Flanders:

            the people humans

What other kinds of humans are there?

    • And I thank you

    • …was wondering why it's now limited to 2 per person.

  • +19

I will never understand our country's obsession with bottled water. What developing countries would give to have drinkable tap water.

    • -5

      Yeah but Fluoride ; )

      • +4

These still have fluoride in them

      • +3

you do realise that fluoride is added to our water to prevent tooth decay?

        • +2

          Shoulda added my /s

        • -1

Really? All this time I thought the government was trying to dumb us down lol

          /s

        • +2

Get back to me once you've seen Dr. Strangelove. The documentary will open your eyes once the general reveals that fluoridation is a nothing more than a giant communist plot

    • +3

It’s a trend in most Western countries, not just Australia, which started in the late nineties. People nowadays think it’s bad for you to go without a sip of water for 15 minutes, creating this need to always carry on a bottle of water wherever you go (and some people are too lazy to buy a reusable water bottle and fill it up with tap water).

      • +2

        No, its not…

Many Western countries are recognizing the huge environmental impact of buying bottled water.

While Australia/Australians tend not to care about the environment, don't pretend everyone else is the same!

        • I have lived in quite a few Western countries and it is a general trend in my experience. You are over generalising when you’re saying we’re not caring and other Western countries are. I don’t ‘pretend’ anything, I’m just calling out that it is worrying that so many people from developed countries feel the need to buy bottled water. Saying that Australians tend not to care about the environment is plain silly. Sure, we should all do much better but I’m quite impressed how people here (Sydney) tend to clean up their mess after a BBQ in the park. Compare that to eg Berlin, Amsterdam or Barcelona.

          • +5

@bozbargain: There's MUCH more to caring about the environment than picking up litter.

Australia is one of the most polluting countries on the planet and is showing no signs of wanting that to change. We're even discussing opening more coal power plants…

        • +4

While many Australians really do care about the environment, unfortunately many others don't. And this seems to be reflected in the politicians we elect. Politicians who are dismissive of "some sort of report".

Interesting fact: Dutch people sued their government to force it to do more about Climate Change and won the case. The Dutch government is now legally forced to bring down emissions by 25% (of 1990 levels). I believe the latest ruling might even force the government to bring emissions down by 49%. To find out more, check out "Urgenda".

There are many people that dislike the coppery/metallic taste of tap water as it's plumbed through pipes. Nothing wrong with that.

      • +10

I agree, I find the coppery/metallic taste of the water as it is delivered via pipes to the plastic bottles in the factory combined with the microplastics that leach from the bottle material so much better.

        • -2

There you go. Just make sure to recycle responsibly.

      • +1

Yeah, because they fill up each bottle by hand right next to a natural spring like on a tv commercial. No pipes or metal involved I'm sure.

        • Not necessarily, but the filtration techniques are generally more robust. In fact you can detect the difference in taste between different brands. To each their own.

    • Was $7 at Woolies according to that page, so cheaper to start off with than Amazon's regular price too.

  • +7

Thanks OP. Ordered 2 just to see what it was like to get water delivered via courier. Expecting it to taste slightly better.

  • +1

Not bad from a deal perspective, though a number of elements to this deal are quite an inefficient use of societies resources - the postage for a heavy item and the fact it is bottled water. That said Amazon is responsible as the seller.

    • +5

Amazon is responsible as the seller.

Or are we, as consumers, responsible for the buying decisions that we make?

      • Yes but in this case I think it's more Amazon, as they're incentising people with a well below cost offer (in terms of postage + product cost).

        • sorry, but I'm thinking it is still a hell of a lot cheaper to get the water out of you home tap.
So the cost of ANY bottled water is way, way above that from the tap.

          • @MicMac: Yes that's what I'm saying, plus a significant postage cost.

            • -1

              @acersaurus:

              plus a significant postage cost.

I'm thinking just order 10, over $49 is free postage . Only need to order 8 for free postage without prime.

Can anyone comfirm please, is this cheaper than any of the regular half price deals etc for 500ml bottles of water, which regularly come up at cole/woolworths ??

I mean for any brand, brand name doesn't matter to me . I will buy 10 or more I guess, if its cheapest they ever are for 500ml bottled water.

Edit: Im in NSW, so add 10c/bottle to any deals/sale price that come up in other states.

  • +6

Before you go buying this, checkout this video on bottled water vs tap water from the War on Waste
    https://youtu.be/X5zJQtBLJqI

    • +9

Yes, it's beyond me why people keep buying bottle water. It's really bad to the environment. I'm more than happy to drink tap water or make my own chilled water at home.

      • These bottles aren't chilled - they'll be supplied at room or van temperature.

        • No, really, I'm not kidding - they won't be supplied chilled.

    • I don't trust this video…
In this video it's said the PH of bottle water mount franklin is 3.7…
what does PH 3.7 mean? Usually the PH of orange juice / vinegar is between 3-4…

      • +1

Yeah Mt Franklin is pretty much the most acidic they tested. Bad for teeth I think.

      • Thats a bit misleading I think. I'm not a chemistry major so I don't know the exact term, but pH is not the only measurement thats valid. There's also something to do with the reaction capacity of the fluid. Because water is so 'empty' of minerals, you can raise or lower the ph quite easily. So while they may be the same pH, that glass of water might be neutralized with just a drop of an alkaline substance, whereas the the orange juice would need closer to an equal amount of the same stuff to balance it out.

  • Aren't the Woolworths/Coles ones always around this price and they are 24x600…?

    • -1

Nope, only when they have it on sale, currently is $9 at my local WW.

      • water it water, woolworths/coles sell 24x600ml bottles for $6 or something.

        • +1

its $8 something (in NSW at leaste) since the return and earn scheme

  • +1

Watch out for the microplastics when you open the bottle.

  • I wish these fit into my car cup holders as well as a 600ml bottle. I always buy them though when I see them on special.

The Frantelle bottles aren't my upper of choice because they crush too easily.

  • +1

Same price as woolworth at the moment.

  • +1

I feel for the delivery drivers out there having to deliver these slabs of water

    • Saves paying for a gym membership, plus, if they get thirsty from all that lifting…

    • -1

how's their form - i get home today and one box is sitting on the footpath, another in front of a tree… i walk up to my front door and another box is neatly in front of the door… clearly they did one and couldnt be (profanity) doing the others and drove off… startrack, what a joke.

it's these amateurs that'll give amazon a bad name.

  • Temporarily out of stock - Although you can still order at the discounted price.
