[eBay Plus] G.Skill 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB) 3200MHz Flare X Desktop Memory - $324 Delivered @ PC Byte eBay

Hi all,

I've been putting together my Ryzen build for a while and my research suggested the G.Skill Flare X's were a good match with Ryzens.

I've been looking around for the G.Skill 16gb (2x8gb) 3200mhz Flare X set and it's actually quite hard to get.

They are normally around $335 for the set from places like MSY, mwave and pccasegear, but the latter 2 charge their standard delivery fee of between $10 to $15.

So at $324 delivered, it's a decent saving.

Cheers.

      Big difference in specs… CL14 vs CL16.

The Flare X in the original post uses Samsung B-Die memory.

  • +1

FYI my flare x won't oc past 3000mhz on my B350 strix mobo, running a 1600x.

Make sure they are on your mobos QVL.

    • +1

Also, take note that the memory controller on the newer Zen+ CPU's might be better, that means a 2600x might support the full speed.

      Everyone's mileage may vary.

    • i have 2600 and trident z rgb 3000cl15 running @ 3200 cl15

  • Umart have g skill for cheaper price but 3000mhz, but its rgb for those interested in that stuff

Ripjaws V 16GB 3200mhz usually go on sale for $200-$230, and it works just fine with either AMD or Intel. For $260-280 you can get the TridentZ RGB of the same spec.
This "Designed for AMD CPU" sounds like silly marketing to me.

i dunno but they use b-die chips instead of pringles where ryzen 1xxx series are sensitive of

      • Are sensitive of, or were? There's been a lot of board updates since launch.

        • +2

Ryzen still prefers low-latency over high speed ram. CL makes a bigger difference than raw mhz speed (although both are important).

        • @Jorkus: of course, but I'm not sure the OP has listed a bargain, merely shown how you can save $10 off current pricing for a specific certified RAM that might deliver a 1% performance gain for over $100 extra.

        • +1

@jasswolf: it's not 1% though. With Ryzen CPUs, non-B-die sticks are notorious for not stably clocking at their advertised speeds (usually around a 20-30% hit).

        • @kpm: most of the readily available info online is from March-May 2017… do you have current info that isn't redditors regurgitating this info, and what is the actual system performance impact?

Here's some data with Ryzen 2 that shows the performance impact is negligible, and becomes even more so if you manually tune the timings (which you can google the info for):

    • Pretty much. its B-die ram that has been specced for ryzen. You can buy any high speed ram off your mobos QVL and run it for ryzen, this just advertises the fact.

Like I said above it still might not be the ram you want for your motherboard.

  • Would you mind sharing your Ryzen build? I'm trying build my one as well.

    • Not op but I just finished my ryzen build a while back. Got most of my part from the firsay %15ebay plus deal

      • Thanks buddy, good enough for me :)

      • How's that monitor faring for you, and did you get it off eBay? I'm in the predicament of buying a monitor (hoping to jump on the ASUS PG279Q: the ASUS version with the same panel as the Acer), but I'm worried about having to continuously return panels with bad backlight bleed.

        • +1

Got the monitor off of shellothead on eBay which should be the same entities as shopping express and futu (keng Seng computer but don’t quote me on that lol)

I was really worried about black light bleeding too seeing as ips are prone so that was the first thing I tested when I got it. Might have just gotten lucky but the panel on my unit were great with minor if at all black light bleed. Hope it help

    • I'm holding off my build just because of these insane ram prices

Analysts saying RAM is dropping in price soon may be 25% by 2019.

I been holding off buying and using 2133Mhz still.

any news on 25% off housing ?

    • 2133 on a ryzen…. You poor soul!

      • Well I use Intel CPU …

    • Im still useing 2133 too on my ryzen 1700
Works fine but i hate seeing comparisons betwee 2133 and 3200 lol.

      • Is there that much of a difference across different workloads? I was always told the biggest differnce is benchmarks - real world use like gaming dont show much difference (2-5fps).

        • Depends on game engine - some show little or no improvement, other more than 10%. Generally if a game is CPU limited then faster RAM will improve it.

      • Then don't look :p

        • How about no? Lol
Nah im going to be doing a fullsystem upgrade soon
          Rtx 1080 ti
And im still undecided if i should keep 1st gen ryzen till zen 2 is out.or go intel 9th gen when that comes out as im going for high hz monitors.
Aswell as case ssd monitor etc.

    • 2133mhz is fine for the use in our household, but even slow ram is expensive at the moment ….

25% drop and I'd build a new system.

    • 50% was what I heard, but I'm expecting them to drop before then. They actually started to drop a little in July, but that was quickly walked back by people rushing to buy.

  • Far out RAM prices are out of control. Still running 32gb of DDR3 in my 2700k build and reluctant to upgrade to a new system with prices like this.

    • On the bright side, you can get a dirt cheap ssd!…..

      • That's true! When I first did this build I added in a 60GB SSD and that was breaking the budget.
