  • How do these compare to the QC35ii's? I tried them today at the airport and they were pure bliss. Amazing comfort and incredible sound.

the Sony and bowers and wilkins phones sound better than the Bose.

Both are high end and i didnt notice much difference in sound quality and noise cancellation when i tried both. 14hr single charge battery life is good enough for me. H9 feels luxurious compared to the plastic body and headband of QC35. Ideally i wnted h9i but too expensive.

I have the h9i and they absolutely blow both the Bose QC35ii and the Sony XM2 out of the water in terms of sound quality

I saw there's also a newer version, the H9i, in beige or black for $581.25 after the 25% discount.

For what it’s worth Choice hasn’t reviewed these but the older h8i scored vs qc35 71% and Sony’s latest 1000xm2 90%.

    • Those generalised scores are irrelevant as the H8 is on ear, the H9, the other 2 are over ear.

  • I decided on the QC35 based on this review for what it's worth https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.theverge.com/platform/am…

I return now to my two original questions. Does the Beoplay H9 extend the H6 glory into the wireless realm? No. If you want the best portable over-ear sound, you’re still better off with the Beoplay H6. And how does the H9 stack up against the QC35 from Bose and 1000X from Sony? Well, the Bose cans have their own set of detractors about their sound, but since they have a substantially lower price tag at $349, they pretty much win by default. Sony’s sound quality is also not head and shoulders above everyone else, but the comfort and noise canceling of the 1000Xs are both extraordinary. Even at the same price as the Beoplay H9s, Sony’s offering is lighter and more portable due to a collapsible design, so many might prefer it — but at $100 cheaper, it’s an obviously better pick.

I am not an audiophile and teeny tiny differences in sound and noise cancellation doesn’t bother me too much. At this price level all headphones are generally good and so my choice of h9 was based on removable battery, leather flexible headband, classy aluminium body with touch controls, better sound (to me) than qc35 and an app with equaliser.
I was holding back earlier due to price but pulled the trigger at this price.

  • Sorry meant to say h8i scores 68%
