Good value for it, but I think that probably comes after the news they are releasing a new one with slightly bigger screen and built in GPS… I heard that from someone so forgive me if I'm wrong!
But that will be more expensive! Not sure about GPS, but Eee PC 900 (with 9" screen at 1024x600) will be retailed for around USD$499 which will easily break AUD$600 mark.
One reason why people buy Eee PC is because it is cheap. It is great to see introducing the new model is bringing down the price of Eee PC 701. I actually have one and use it everyday. Great little machine.
Aren't they releasing the next model up from this next month (April)?
According to the press release from Asus:
ASUS has made several innovative improvements with the next generation of the Eee PC – dubbed the Eee PC 900. These new technologies will bring about a brand new concept for Internet access with 1G of memory, larger storage of up to 12GB, and wider 8.9-inch screens. These new Eee PCs will cost 399 Euro each, and will be available in summer this year – to select countries on the first wave of launch. All of these new models will be Windows ready, and will provide users with a chance to enjoy a brand new PC experience while on the go.
So here is the point form for engineers:
- 8.9" LCD, 1GB memory, 12GB SSD.
- 399 Euro (AUD$682 at the moment)
- Available in summer this year (summer = June-August)
Windows XP-powered Eee PC due next week
Later next quarter, Asus plans to unveil its new Eee PC 900. The 900 model will have an 8.9" display, and statements by Asus officials suggest some iterations of the machine will feature Intel's new Atom processors, touch screens, and possibly built-in GPS hardware. The laptop will also be capable of running Windows XP, although Asus hasn't yet said whether it will be available with XP pre-installed.
The Windows XP powered Eee that will be released next week is still the same 701 series (7" LCD at 800x480). Eee 900 will be later in the year.

Shipping appears to be $24.50 to most states. Does that mean with coupon applied, you can get an Eee PC for $399 + ($24.50 * 50%) = $411.25?!
