Chuwi Hi10 Pro 2-in-1 Win 10 Tablet 4GB/64GB with Keyboard Dock - Free DHL Delivery - US $169.99 (~AU $227) @ GearBest

460

[UPDATE 14/11 4PM] - Back to AU $227 again only 12 units available.

Originally contemplating buying Chuwi Hi10 (not pro) at aliexpress as it appeared on front page OB yesterday. That one ended up around AU$254 when bundled with keyboard dock.

Checked Gearbest under the 11.11 promotion and found buy 1 get 1 free section - means the keyboard dock comes in free. Final price is AU$227. Not only it's cheaper but this is the pro version which is metal body (and few other upgrades).

The page says promo ends in 9 days and 10 hours (since time of posting) however the picture on the page does say "Flash Deal" which normally means very short promotion period. I'm no expert with Gearbest so you guys probably know better.

I found out that Expedited shipping (DHL) came free with promise of 3-7 business days shipping period.

Just got a message from Gearbest saying they're out of stock and can't fulfil the order…

…but they'll send me the new model with the chipset upgraded to Z-8350 with a slightly higher turbo speed instead :)

(Also I was in a "remote area" so DHL wanted an extra $30 but they're happy to send it to an address in town).

Yeah me too. I'm asking them how long does it take for the update.

This is an update about following item:

TIAHL8CIG01 CHUWI Hi10 Pro 2 in 1 Ultrabook Tablet PC with Keyboard.

We are sorry to let you know that we can not ship the item for you as our supplier is updating the tablet`s version. All the old version orders can not be shipped. The tablet will update from 1.84GH to 1.92GHz.

Please let us know the update version is acceptable?

Please kindly reply us in 3 business days,or we will ship the update version to you by default.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

        Update isn't software, it's hardware.

So it's a completely different device.

Got the same message as well, didn't tell me that it was actually the Z-8350 but after a quick search, found out about the change.

They didn't say it was out of stock, simply that there was a newer model, and that they aren't allowed to ship the older ones.

Hopefully there isn't a delay on the newer models, I doubt it.

      • The "171 units remaining" pretty much means nothing then?

      • just got a reply, they're saying about 5-7 working days delay. Still acceptable to me since we got DHL shipping.

      • Same here, they simply said 1.92Ghz… They since confirmed it's the newer z8350. Same chip set, higher clock speed basically.

    • Same problem. Switched to priority line free of charge, apparently it's similar postage times to Australia anyway.

  • So is the new version better? I received the same message too!

  • any link to the new tablet ?

  • Did anyone order a stylus too? The only one I found was this, but I'm wondering if normal stylus can work too? I've got a stylus from my Nintendo DS, and another one from my Samsung Note…

    http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-accessories/pp_435776.html?ut…

    • I am not too sure what kind of stylus technology it uses, but by the sounds of it (how they require you to charge it), it wouldn't work with either of your styluses.

  • Hoping @gearbest could help with our case here? Would that be a different model or still the same (only with different chip)? How long is the delay?

    • They are saying within one week for the new model if no delay… which there could be.

Technically it's a different model, but the only difference is the upgraded chip in it.

      • It's the same model, Intel simply upgraded the chip and now reference it as a completely new CPU. In reality there's a few minor hardware bug fixes and Intel saying "you can push this chip ~5% harder than first advertised" with the new boost clock amounts.

    • It's the same model. Various sources say the legitimate chuwi tablet of this model now ships with Z8350, which is (as stated in emails) 1.92Ghz. I have also confirmed with support this is the case - they stated it's the same tablet now shipping with Z8350.

I just received an email from Gearbest, they expect to receive the new model in a week or so and it takes DHL 3 - 7 working days to ship. So say two weeks from now?

      • Hey guys, I asked them again two days ago and they replied that they would get the stock from supplier 30th Nov. Hopefully no further delay

  • I just read that message then, so I'm guessing I don't have to do anything as they will send the updated one out by default?

    Anyone message them about it?

    • Yeah they said they are waiting for the stock from supplier. Estimate 30th Nov and then despatch to us. Hopefully no more delays!

      • 30th now… It delayed by another week. Last week I was told this week they will have stock in.

      • Funny that, if you go to the site to order the same tablet and it says it ships between 25 - 27 Nov. You would think they would be fairer to all if they were just honest and upfront from the start. Patience is a virtue I guess but the longer I look at the lack of support from Chuwi for this tablet, the more I think I should cancel my order :(

Mine has been despatched just now

        • @Rsalim: same here. Was one of those times where I was happy to be woken up at 2am by my phone telling me I had a new email :p

  • FYI I got mine dleivered from DHL today.

    • Mine is scheduled tomorrow! How is it? How to check if the chip is the new upgraded one?

At work at the moment but have opened it up. Must say it is VERY impressive in the small time I have had it. I am typing this on a Surface Pro 4 I use for work and the consenus from collegues is that the build quality, especially the Keyboard, is almost on par (and surpasses according to some unbiased opinions)the Surface. Please dont interpret that as me thinking this device as good as a Surface, it clearly isnt. Pound for pound tho………it fights above its weight so far.

I have since christened this the "Churface"

Cant wait to get it home to take a more detailed look, but the unanimous opinion from 10+ collegues was for the $233 (I insured it) that it is brilliant for the price.

The sticker on the side tells you it is a Z8350 and I confirmed in Device manager.

  • I placed my order on 12th Novemeber, no doubt lured in by the cheap price like many other people.

19 days later I have the tablet and keyboard (which shipped after asking for my order to be cancelled due to the delay) but they haven't shipped the stylus yet.

Now they say the stylus is in stock but it will be 3-7 days before they can ship it.

    The reason?

"To make sure the item we sent to the customer in good quality, and the item have large demand in our company, we need 3-7 working days more to do the quality checking."

I've had problems with GearBest in the past and I can see that things have not improved. It's been a terrible experience dealing with them.

    BUYER BEWARE.

    • but is the tablet \ keyboard anygood ?

  • Is the tablet/keyboard any good?

Depends on what you want to use it for. I bought it primarily to use for taking handwritten notes so until the stylus arrives it's useless for that purpose.

    First impressions:

    • General build quality of the tablet feels pretty good
    • The keyboard is surprisingly heavy. When the whole thing is together it doesn't feel that much lighter than my x1 carbon which has a 14" screen
    • With the tablet docked in the keyboard the angle it opens to is very limited. With the laptop in front of me I'm looking at the screen at a ~30 degree angle instead of straight on.
    • The tablet can be docked back to front in the keyboard. You lose use of the keyboard but you can get better angles for viewing content
    • Screen came with what feels like a plastic screen protector on it which means your finger doesn't glide over the screen. If it's plastic it will also likely mark when used with a stylus, so I'll either remove the plastic or put on a glass screen protector
    • Supplied USB C cable is really short so I can't use it while plugged in until I get a longer cable
    • Doesn't seem to charge over micro USB so I'm guessing only the USB C connector can be used for charging
    • To me it's immediately noticeable that the screen sits a bit further back behind the glass
    • Using it as a laptop reminds me a lot of using a 10" EEEPC. Adequate in a pinch but not something you'd want to spend too much time on
    • General use in Windows is a bit slow but it hasn't tested my patience too much.
    • The touchpad has some "features" when you swipe from the edges: left = task view, down = desktop, right = notifications. I'm frequently minimising all windows and bringing up the desktop by accident and I can't find a way to disable it yet. There is an executable available on the tech tablet forums that is supposed to turn edge swipe off and reverse the scrolling direction. For me it reverses the scrolling but edge swipe is still on.
    • Android works but I haven't used it much. It's an old version of android, reminds me of my Nexus 7 2012
    • Brightness controls are limited. 0% brightness is still quite bright in a dark room. Probably can be solved in software
    • Battery life yet to be thoroughly tested

To sum it up so far:

    • Impressive for the money? Yes.
    • Worth the money? Remains to be seen. Won't know until after the stylus has arrived.
    • Would I buy it from GearBest again? No.
    • I agree with the viewing angle when docked. I think that's my biggest gripe. Would like it to tilt back a bit further (150 deg?).

Also agree with the fingerprint on screen. Now contemplating to remove the screen protector or just deal with it.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it so far.

  • I got the tablet last week and all seemed good, then Windows froze on me yesterday and I had to long press the power button to force shutdown…and now it won't turn on.
I've googled a little bit and tried pressing the power button for 2 minutes and also pressing power and volume up buttons simultaneously but nothing seems to work. Even the LED charging light doesn't light up when I plug in the power cable.
    Has anyone experienced this issue?

    • Just saw your message. Mine works alright. How did it go with you?

      • Ironically when I tried to make a video demonstrating the unresponsive tablet for gearbest support, it came back to life! My guess is the tablet got stuck in windows sleep state and ran down the battery far enough that the power+volume up combination actually reset the tablet. But who knows…

  • Anyone else order the stylus with the tablet? And did anyone receive theirs?

26 days after ordering GearBest haven't posted mine.

    • I can confirm my stylus isn't even sent yet either.

More worrying though is the tablet which still hasn't turned up. Tracking says it finally left Hong Kong on the 2nd Dec.
A month or so is what I usually expect from China but when everyone got theirs earlier I started getting excited.

Heading overseas before Xmas too so getting antsy

  • Haven't got mine yet, hope to have it by January at least :/ (birthday prezzy) gearbest has never been this slow for me but in saying that it was only posted out 2 weeks ago, 28/11.

    • Didnt you guys use the free DHL shipping? Mine arrived within 3 working days and traceable in all steps

      • Got it today, haven't opened it yet… :)

  • Just opened it up, wow real nice for the price, I won't play with it, just turned it on to see if it would start.
