Now, for those of us who -had- the non-Pro version…

HOW to get the Pro ver to use previously downloaded Maps…? :-/

      • Don't think it's possible, iOS sandboxes storage for each app.

  • says in-app purchases

    • I assumed that Pro indicates no in app purchases, but I could be wrong as I haven't downloaded any maps for it

      • +3

Topo maps are the only in app purchase in the pro version. Worth it.

        • So, for city folks, Street maps are Free to D'load?

        • +2

@IVI: Yes, can even download wiki travel guides for destinations as well.

$7.99 In-App purchase for the Offline Maps. Better to use Google Maps App and make an offline region, and do the same in Trip Advisor App for all the extra info.

    • +1

I would rather the one off spend of $8 than go to all that effort each and every time. Agree on trip advisor though. An unnecessary extra.

    • +7

That's incorrect. Offline maps are free. $7.99 in-app is for topographic maps, which most people don't need anyway.

Unless I’m using it wrong with data turned off I couldn’t see any maps. As in I have to scroll through the area you want to be offline while online first before you get to use them offline.

          You're using it wrong :P

There's a menu option to pre-download an entire region (e.g. all of Australia)

I had this on Android which I paid for, but I prefer to use MAPS.me, this has offline routing and just pretty works well. Used it to travel in Japan and Europe.

  • +2

This is an amazing app, used it in travel throughout Europe, even has public transport routes integrated for large cities which was super helpful.

  • For those who don't know - this app uses OpenStreetMap data, which in my opinion is excellent. Especially when you go away from cities, like bushwalking, the tracks are fairly accurate.

The app isn't the best for driving or road navigation, use Google Maps for that. This is better for more remote places, or when you need offline maps.

  • Who's the map provider?

Just wondering if its worth giving up Maps.me for.

      OpenStreetMap

      • cheers mate

This app's strength as far as I am concerned is remote area use, particularly the topo map which is an in app purchase for 8 bucks. Traveller/backpackers seem to like it too but I haven't used it for that.

Used it when going up mt warning the other day. Followed path pretty close, although I had reduced the GPS accuracy in settings as I thought a high accuracy Location setting would drain the battery in steep rainforest gullies. I think I could have set accuracy higher and still have charge.
It is also great for vehicle track use in remote areas like the gulf country where your usual Nav apps do not have the detail of tracks, or off road altogether. I was pretty impressed with it getting about properties near Georgetown. I always could see where I was.
On battery drain, the 9 km MtvWarning walk was over five hours, steep terrain, rainforest, in and out of deep gullies fair way away from the nearest cell tower in hilly terrain, and i used about 25% of iPhone 6S battery with the app, including music, some texting, copious photo taking and a couple of three minute or so phone calls from the top.

Why not use Here maps far better than this, these are regularly updated all maps and regions can be downloaded for free and were developed by Nokia

    • No.

You know instead of making a negative comment you could be like "you can also use this". Just because there is something else out there that is free doesn't mean it's not a bargain.
