Recommend Good Noise Blocking (Not Necessarily Cancelling) over Ear Headphones for under $100

Hi all. My old man is going into hospital to get his ticker fixed up on Monday and will be in the hospital for 10 days. I want to get him some over (not on) ear headphones so he can listen to music and watch videos on his ipad whilst he is in there.

Since he'll probably be in a shared room I want to get him some headphones that will block out the noise from the other patient and also general ward noise. This doesn't have to be active noise cancelling, it's an obvious bonus but ones that cover and seal over the ears fine would also suffice.

Budget is $100, They have to be located in Aus, preferably Melbourne so I can either buy online in the next 24hrs or buy instore on the weekend so I can give to him at admission.

If anyone has a pair they can recommend it'd be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

My personal recommendation would be: Sony MDRZX110NC Noise Cancelling Headphones. Amazing quality and would cost you less than $100

    • We have 2 pairs of them them here. Got them 2 for $99 in March. They're not bad but they are only 'on ear' not 'over ear' like I'm after. Over ear will passively block more noise, one thing these ones aren't the best at.

      Cheers for the recommendation though!

        Over-ear, Noise-isolating Headphones
        30mm Neodymium Driver
Up To 80 Hours Of Battery Life

I was referring to these, my experience with them is pretty good so far. Cheers :)

        • Yep they're the same ones I've got. They aren't over ear ie when your entire ear is inside the padded ring, just on ear. I found them great on planes for blocking out the drone but when someone is talking near you I can still hear them pretty well even when the anc is turned on.

Get the Audio Technica M40X for $129 which is a great option imo. Use the code 10XY75 at checkout to reduce the total for $119. It's a tad over your range, however it will be worth it :)

    • heard a lot about it, a good share :)

They sound great too! The guys at StoreDJ are awesome to deal with and are very helpful. You can go to their Melbourne store to try on the headphones first if you're not sure how they sound. They may even find you a better pair of cans if you tell them what you are really after :)
