This lavish and critically acclaimed production of The Sound of Music tells the uplifting true story of the von Trapp family's flight across the mountains and works its magic, for young and old alike.

Amy Lehpamer shines in the coveted role of Maria (winner of 'Best Actress in a Musical - Sydney Theatre Awards 2015') alongside the multi-talented Cameron Daddo as Captain von Trapp. Also starring are many of Australia's favourite stage performers including Marina Prior and Lorraine Bayly. The Sound of Music touches the hearts of all ages and includes some of the most memorable songs performed on stage including 'My Favorite Things', 'Do-Re-Mi', 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain', 'The Lonely Goatherd', 'Sixteen Going on Seventeen' and 'The Sound of Music'.

Here's a clip from it: So long, Farewell
A standout was Jacqueline Dark as Mother Abbess, which was not even mentioned in the advert. So I thought I should … I was entralled by her performance.

Great show. Saw it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had forgotten how many if not all the songs were classics all on their own. Cameron Daddo wasn't on stage when I saw it last Tuesday for some reason but his replacement was great (although I had nothing to compare against).

Have seen it with and without Cameron, and like Singin' in the Rain, the understudy was better. Played the part much better and was more believable.

      • Yeah, oftentimes, that is the case. Especially when they get a celebrity for the name, whose careers might not have been forged in musical theatre, to play the role.

E.g. Compare Anthony Harkin's and Cameron Daddo's career summary, no surprise about what you said.

Spot on. The number of ppeople disappointed by having Mr Harkin instead of Mr Daddo was frustrating.

I'm so over less talented individuals who get roles just because they have a 'name'.

    • Same here, when we saw the show, Captain was played by Anthony Harkin. Thought he did a good job.

    Pity no weekend slots available.

    Too expensive

Yes, how true! I save on other things, just to pay for this kind of stuff! The euphoria it gives, I suppose it is like drug :-)

I haven't been to the theatre for a while, probably a good excuse to take the family out.

I believe when the budget allows, to support live theatre.

Based on comments, I hope I don't get the Daddo if I do end up going.

I must say though I've always hated those *Fees. just put them in the price already!

    • This may or may not be true, it is what I have heard. Apparently, earlier in the week, e.g. Mon-Wed and mid-week matinee, the chances of getting understudy are higher. The reasoning being that Fri, Sat, and Sun tickets cost more, so they try not to disappoint the audience who forked out more. (Assuming the replacement is just for the actor/actress to have a break. If it were sickness, then that is a different matter).

Wish there were theatre people in this forum who can confirm this. Having said that, I have also heard about very conscientious actors/actresses who know they are the drawcards, and in order not to disappoint the audience, will not take a break for the entire run. Not good for the understudy though.
