    Basically can't be used by families with school aged kids then…

    • +4

      Does that surprise you?

      • +4

        Not really…

        Just hoping that one day, families can make use of cheap flights too…

        • +11

          without sounding condescending, they're running a business, classic supply and demand. Don't know if they're too concerned about families and their budgets.

          they're running a business, classic supply and demand.

          According to their press releases, this is supposed be a 'celebration' of reaching the milestone.

          Seems like they don't want families to celebrate with them…

          You do realise that airlines are a business?

          @jv:

          So.. What is stopping someone with kids ?

        • @Catalystic:

          school…

        • @jv:

          Then take a few days off school to go, just like you would with work.

        • +1

          @Catalystic:

          Then take a few days off school to go

          Not an option…

        • @jv:

          How is it not? Are they going to deny it?

        • +1

          @Catalystic:

          Are they going to deny it?

          Yep, school policy…

        • +4

          @jv: How dare they make money in the times their planes are full.

          @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

          Did I say they shouldn't make money ?

        • @Catalystic:

          thats what we do, so far my kids aren't seeming any stupider for it :)

        • @jv: That's incorrect.
          A holiday is a "reasonable / satisfactory excuse" for non attendance, though discouraged, provided the parent/guardian has informed the school beforehand and does not exceed 10 consecutive days of non-attendance.

        • +9

          @jv: This argument is used in multiple scenarios and it's complete and utter rubbish. A company not specifically doing something for group X does NOT mean they're excluding or discriminating against group X.

          YOU chose to have children. If that ties you to expensive holiday periods then that's your fault and your fault alone.

        • @jv:

          So what is the name of the school policy?

          I think you will find that school's can't stop parents taking their children out of school for a week or two

        • @callum9999: The deal excludes pirates.

        • @jv:
          Hardly excludes, just puts a surcharge on the busiest times of the year.

          @Tihocan:
          Not in Western Australia. When teachers record absences in the system, we use a code for people who have taken children out of school to go on holidays. The code records it as an unauthorised vacation. This was introduced a few years ago as the amount of absenteeism increased due to cheap flights to Bali.

          No - going on a holiday and saying they will learn when they are there is not considered an authorised vacation. Following a full study programme on top of the sightseeing/ swimming in the pool.

        • @Emli:
          So what? I assume if it's only happening once a year it isn't a big deal. I feel kids would learn a lot from a holiday.

          You seem overly worried what someone types on a computer with no actual information about any consequences.

        • +1

          @jv: Just tell them you're an OzBargainer, and you can only take your kids on holidays during school time. They will understand, they Ozbargain too.

        • Don't forget the 10s of 1000s of Australian's working in Education who can't score a decent deal all year round! :)

        • @RI4V4N: People often claim that, very rarely does it actually happen…

        • @RI4V4N: Actually no. There will probably be a time when there will be consequences as it happens in other countries. We have families who miss six to eight weeks a school year.

        • +1

          If they did have sales on during those times, you'd complain there was never any available anyway as people would snatch them up quick smart.

          In addition, if you legitimately need to fly during those times, it's nice to actually be able to get a flight at any price, rather than not at all…

    • We take time off school for holidays. nsw public school. have not heard anything in the negative from them yet. In March my kid just had 3 weeks off..went to Asia and had a blast at Disneyland/Universal and Legoland.

  • +2

    I find it hard to believe that all their milestones 15, 16, 17, 18 & now 19 millionth passengers never fly over a school holiday period…

    • Little while back they had 20% off ALL flights in April which includes NSW and VIC school holidays… and probably other states too.

    Cheers OP, got myself $38 return OOL-SYD for the City2Surf.

  • +7

    Cheers - managed to price match with Jetstar and saved about $1000.

    • So you spent $9,000 on flights?

      • No… i was looking at flights yesterday with Tiger/Jetstar which were about $1600. Now with this sale they are about $600.

        • Okay cool. I thought for a moment you were making a joke about saving $1.90 by using the Jetstar price beat for a $19 Tiger fare.

  • no friday-monday syd-melb…as expected. oh well, good mid-week deals to be had.

    • Yeah, shame fri-sun is $55-$65 instead of $19… DX

      • +1

        not sure if sarcasm or I'm missing something… :\

        • LOL.. no sarcasm intended… Just stating the fact xD… Was looking for flights for the weekends =D

        • +1

          @piggiepanda: haha no problems, I didn't recognise the 'DX', but I know the 'xD' :)
