i hated this phone. its beyond bad.

    • I like the phone. Can't complain at this price. There's been better phones for similar prices though.

      • shroomish agreed. The lumia 520 & 625 were ok, the next gen 530 & 630 are shit

  • +6

been using mine since the big w deal as a gps and facebook phone. not bad at all for a cheapo smartphone

    • Windows Facebook app isn't very good. And the Y550 for $40 were much nicer phones.

  • +1

I'm still using a Lumia 530 and love it. Wouldn't mind a backup though. Can this one be unlocked easily/cheaply? Bagman did my 530 for my last time.

  • Missed out this deal! Will not make the same mistake…

  • +1

It's a Microsoft Lumia, not a Nokia lumia TA ;)

    • +1

      What was I thinking :)

Why are these so expensive when most other phones are 3-7 bucks?

  • I've never owned a cheap secondary back up phone but am considering one. What do you guys use these phones for? Any suggestions for cheap sim cards?

    • +1

I use them for family/guests that come over. Also use them as Wi-Fi hotspots. They seem to work very well!

    • +12

      Secret girlfriend :)

    • +1

Any suggestions for cheap sim cards?

Aldi $5 Sim for 1 year, esp. when $1

    • Hot Spot with Data Sim Card

  • If this is locked to telstra, will it work on the aldi network?

    • +1

      No. Needs unlocking.

  • +1

Got one last sale for $39+$20 unlock. Easily best cheap phone I've had. Will get another.

    • Where did you get it unlocked.
Could you please share the link.

  • Thanks TA! Nearly paid $49 at Kmart yesterday but something told me to hold off

    • +8

That's the inner tightarse you heard

  • Can anyone comment as to whether the screen is clearer on this than the 530? I'm using the 530 for an incar gps but the screen is near impossible to view with sunglasses on.

    • Not really. The screen is better but its still crap and hard to see the screen outside.

      • rather pickup a used 520 than a new 530/532. Screen on the latter is horrible

      • Thanks. In what way is it better? I mainly need better viewing angle and contrast to make it clearer.

  • Thinking about getting one to use as a mobile hotspot - but at $29 + cost to unlock is there something else cheaper or is this a good deal for this kind of purpose?

    • +2

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/212048

Zte fit is 4g, this isn't. So it might be a better hotspot. Also cheaper to unlock. But missing Telstra 850 3g.

    • Get a portable wifi modem instead. A lot easier to carry around.

      • Some of the carriers lock the SIMs to mobile devices only. So the modems and wifi hotspot modems don't always work, tethering with an actual phone is the only option in these cases.

        • Optus PrePaid does that.

  • how good is the 4G on this phone?

    • +2

      No 4G unfortunately only 3G

  • Is the link meant to take me to something right now? Or will it appear later?

    • The link is generic, the phone will appear in the weekly catalogue starting Wed 30/9 which will be posted soon.

      • +1

        Thought as much, cool :)

  • I got like 2 Telstra Locked phones already the Tempo and the Nokia 530.. I'm use the Tempo as a backup phone.. Cost too much to unlock these phones, so I paid ~$3 for 2 month expiratory using a $30 Telstra starter.

  • excellent deal, if this had a bigger better screen I would buy it !

With everyone raving about these, I just thought I'd offer a counter opinion for anyone else like me who enjoys flagship or near flagship phones and sees the value in well made older phones when they're not the newest anymore. These Lumia 532s are terrible phones. The screen is small and the image quality/viewing angles are abysmal, the software is the worst if you're used to Android or iOS, there are hardly any apps. I bought one for $40 from Woolworths a few months back, thinking the kids could play with it. They don't touch it. Neither do I. I guess I could possibly use it for GPS in the car. But after having used iPhones up to the 4S, and then Galaxy Note 2, S4 and S5, this Lumia is just the worst. Obviously you get what you pay for and I don't regret it. But it does make me wince seeing everyone waxing lyrical about these things. Anyway sorry to go so negative. Just felt that this type of opinion wasn't being represented on these kind of threads, which is how I ended up buying one of the things in the first place.

      Yes you are right buuut.
      Lumia 532 $29
      Samsung S5 ~$600+
Or you could buy 20 lumias and make a small foreign village happy for the same price.
      Fair comparison?

Got my s5 "for free" on the $45 telstra prepaid offer recently. Was using the $40 boost ptepaid previously so it will cost $120 after two years.
Yeah you could buy a bunch of $10 phones too. Or an infinite number of free hand me downs. But is it a bargain if you end up with a phone not worth using?

"My Corolla lucks power and luxury compared to my Lexus."
Different price points, different expectation sets.
There are lots of uses for these phones. My mate just bought two for his old parents who are about to set of on the classic 'round Australia Grey Nomad trip. They need Telstra for the network and can't really understand Android phones but they can do the Windows phone tiles. Also, they only need a few apps such as Viber and Skype. In their case this is a good, cheap match for their needs.

    • +1

Aren't comparing a budget phone to some top range models…

    • +2

Kids are nitpicky with phone? Guess everyone has a S6 or Iphone to let them destroy…

  • +2

Gave mum a Lumina 520 because she had difficulty pressing the small icons on Android and Apple. Also being presented the all apps icon and widgets on Android made things confusing as did the Settings icon on Apple.

"tile" icons (also act like widgets if app developer has enabled) can be customised to the width of the screen. Also makes it simple handy for accessing on a dock in the car.

    • +4

i was pleasantly surprised by the windows phone ui. i think they got it just right between the completely uncustomisable ios and the too-customisable-for-its-own-good android :)

      • +4

I agree. I have begun to love the windows phone and hate the androids

  • anyone tried to upgrade to tech preview of Win Mobile 10 to see if that will unlock the phone?

    • I doubt it would. I tried the developer preview on my lumia 530 like 6 months ago and that did not unlock it.

    • Nope two totally different things

    • Why would it? It might remove the telstra branding (which you can do anyway in WP 8.1), but nothing you can do will carrier unlock it without an unlock code.

Well you could remove the logic board and replace it with one from an unlocked phone (which i did with a 520 lol)

  • Im looking for Optus lumia 532. Is there any chance of price matching at dicksmith or any other place

  • what is the return policy on this phone? If I don't like it, can I return it back?

  • More like, can I buy it today and return it tomorrow to buy at the discounted price?

  • Got one from Woolworths Burwood (NSW).

  • Had to travel for work today which had me stressed I'd miss this, but it turns out they have Woolworths in Sydney too :)

Picked up the last one at Wynyard

  • Got the last one at Eltham VIC. Greensborough said they haven't received an allocation, but might tomorrow.

  • Got one as well , they didn't have stock at the Auburn Parramatta road Woolies but said they might be getting stock tonight. I got mine from Newington. I was there when the store opened , Did not want to miss out!!!! hahaha. This will make a great spare to put in my motorbike for emergencies.

  • Got this for my daughter to use as a GPS as she has absconded with my ozbargained and unlocked-for-free-from-Optus kmart 530. She is sticking with a hand-me-down Nokia Xpress Music 3800 as her telephone, so an unlock is not essential but perhaps worthwhile in future when she txts the poor old phone to death.

What is the cheapest unlock for this?

  • Most networks 4g now, nice enough phone but be like going to a 2g handset after 4g.

  • Got the last one, nice little phone (design reminds me of the lumia 830) thanks Op

  • I got the phone here but the problem is i don't know where i can get it unlocked :(

  • Got two in Falcon, WA & there were at least two more left (didn't want to be a piggy- lol). That was about an hour ago now…

    FYI

  • BTW-

As Boost (Telstra) works in the phone, thought I'd mention that they've just increased the data on the unlimited plan: $40 month, no contract, Telstra 3G (great coverage), 3GB data throughout the month + 2GB extra, every Sunday. That's 11GB data per month!

    FYI

And no, I don't work for them- lol.

    • Telstra 3G (great coverage),

      nope, now 4G!. Even Better!

      • I suppose. 3G is fine for me. I read email & browse the web, maybe use the hotspot function from time to time- that's it. It's very fast- I don't sit & wait or anything…

I recommended the deal to a few pensioners who asked me about smart phones & thought they all cost $500+! I think it's a great first foray into smart phones for seniors & Boost is is a good provider.

        Cheers

    Nice little phone.

Aaaaand i was about to hit post when i lost power, then my computers boot manager got broken, finally got time to fix it and when i rebooted my comment was still sitting here :) aaaaand post.

Installing windows 10 on it now

    • How did you get Windows 10 on the 532? Is it the insider preview?

  • Cannot find stock in Melbourne

  • Got one today!!!!

Does anyone know how to record FM Radio ???

  • Got lucky today in Chermside, QLD…. was told they were all gone (from everywhere almost) so I asked if there were more coming in…. the guy checked the computer and the response was "Hang on!!!"

Turns out they had one last one under the counter - thanks very much, I'll take it, thanks for keeping it for me :)

  • Does anyone with the 532 find that the screen sometimes doesn't turn on when locked?
