Google Nexus 9 32GB 4G LTE $479.95 + $19.95 Shipping (AUD) @ Yatango Shopping

110

I was in the market for a new tablet since I dropped my 1st gen Nexus 7 and was looking for something cheap; all I really did was surf and dabble in the occasional game. I was ogling the 16gb wifi model when lo and behold my brother in law linked me to the 32gb LTE model for the same price!

Not sure when this started and when this deal ends but hopefully those in the market for a new tablet find this useful!

after seeing the value in chinese phones & tablets, ill never go back to buying branded phones/tablets for ridiculous prices.

    • With Chinese smartphones, have you experienced any problems which would fall under warranty? How would warranty claims work with those handsets?

      • +2

never had to deal with warranty with china stuff, but in saying that i have never dealt with warranty on branded stuff (even if there is issues, im just lazy like that)

to me, these devices at that price are disposable if it breaks.

    • yep, i'll take 4 Chuwi Hi8s instead

      • I've never used one. Are you comparing bang for buck or do you believe they are on par with the brand names? I had a quick look at the Hi8 and Vi8 and the prices are very good.

          Not on par IMO.

But nowhere near bad or "four times as bad" like the price is 4x as cheap LOL, there's not much innit. For me it mainly comes down to screen quality and possibly "bad" stock ROMs or lack of third party support for ROMs.

        • @Diji1:

So from what i understand if i just wanted it for casual browsing and email, the Chuwi would be the way to go(Based on price)? Is it as smooth scrolling and swiping through menus?

@itsak: yes, the hardware is high end in these chinese devices, its just usually the build quality isnt on par with branded names, but its not terrible either. also things like warranty, software updates etc are a lot better from branded devices.

      • This one?… ever actually used it?

No argument about value but there is only one other device (Mi Pad, a Chinese tab which ain't that cheap although it's cheaper than this) that I'm aware of that packs this GPU which is better than anything else on the market for 3D performance arguably.

So comparing value from that POV is a bit pointless.

    • Any particular recommendation for an approx iPad-size tab?

Not a deal - once delivery is included, you pay the same price for an Aussie sourced one with full Australian warranty. The extra $10 is well worth it for speed and no return worries.

  • I heard mobiles bought from Yatango are shipped from Hong Kong.

    • Yatango used to be called Mobicity. If you go to the US store and change the region, the website redirects to Yatango AU.

There are some complaints on WP and Ozbargain

      • +3

It's unusual for there to be people complaining on WP…..

        • Yeah, doesn't happen all that often does it?? ;-)

  • What a pity, HTC didn't produce a quality product…

What specific issues do you know of regarding this tablet?

      • +1

I have read of instances where the light bleeds around the edges and causes the screen to have bright spots near the edges. I looked at one in JB Hi FI a few days ago and it also had this poor quality. Also the back is very plasticky and not rigid at all so not sure how long it will last.

my Samsung s5 came from Hong Kong and works fine but it's the model that supports all Australian 4G bands. most of these Chinese phones have little in the way of 4 G bands that we use in Australia , fine if you mainly want 3G .

I haven't had problems with warranties on imported electrical, the failure rate for most mass produced items would be fraction of a percent.

Mr Solis the nexus 9 is ok without the k1 chip you wouldn't touch it. To many problems with screen bleeding bad battery life not a patch on the nexus 7, I had mine about a month got rid of it bought a tab s 8.4 way better screen battery life, but saying that I also have a chuwi vi8 they are great not the best battery but hey it's cheap the chipset great 2gig ram 720p screen dual os fantastic quite quick. But if you want to spend a bit more go for the Asus tablet on previous deal full hd 8 inch display Intel chip for 199 with free shipping you wont beat it I believe best bang for buck at the moment

  • Fwiw I had a tab s 10.5 and recently got the nexus 9. Battery life wise the tab s might be slightly better, a bit over 10 hours ost I managed to get on mine. The nexus 9 can get around 10 hours ost too. The screen was nicer on the tab s. Speakers, no competition, the nexus 9 is considerably better. The performance, nexus 9 wins comfortably again. Touchwiz lag is quite apparent on the tab s, vanilla Android on nexus 9 is way better.
