Nokia Lumia 530 - Locked to Optus - $49 + Unlock for Free - Officeworks

This phone is $49 at Officeworks. Pre-paid locked to Optus.

The real magic happens in that you can unlock it for free here:

https://secure-unlock.com.au/ou/launch

You don't even need to activate the Optus SIM before you unlock, and from what I can see, there doesn't appear to be any Optus branding on the phone - unlike similarly Telstra locked phones.

So for $49 and 5 minutes of your time you get an unlocked Nokia 530…

93561 suggested that you may get it cheaper because Harvey Norman sell the phone for $48. That isn't the case on their web site, but you might do better in store…

Phone is obsolete so stocks won't last….

Note this is a SINGLE SIM phone, not DUAL SIM unfortunately.

  • And do you get netflix with it too? That will be like 16 dollars for this phone if you plan to get netflix.

    • Can't be certain, but given that [Optus states] (https://www.optus.com.au/shop/promotions/netflix-subscriptio…) "Get a bonus 6 month Netflix subscription when you purchase a $60 or above My Plan Plus or My Plan Business on a 24-month contract or… get a bonus 3 month Netflix subscription when you purchase a prepaid mobile phone and activate the included SIM." there doesn't appear to be any preclusions to this being included. They only list the 532 on their site though.

      • I agree with Digi79 - the Netflix comes from activating the SIM.

I haven't done so yet, but I can't see any reason why you wouldn't get 3 months Netflix free with this…

      • From the Optus web site:

HOW DO I RECEIVE MY BONUS SUBSCRIPTION VOUCHER?
All you need to do is activate your service on an eligible Optus plan and within 14 days of activation (or your recontract date) you’ll receive a personalised link via SMS, email or letter with a link to claim your voucher online.

Once you've received the email/SMS/letter, you'll have 14 days to claim your unique Netflix subscription code via that link.

You then have until midday AEST on 30 September 2015 to set up a Netflix account using the subscription code.

I just activated the SIM. I'll report back in if/when I receive the email from Optus to claim my voucher…

        • not able to unlock :(

        • @VijayVivek: Phone or Netflix ?

        • phone..activated my phone…but dont know why unlock is not working

        • Netflix voucher sent via SMS about 24 hours after activation.

Now using my 3 months of free Netflix!

  • Is the telstra one dual sim?

    • I don't think so, but pretty sure there is a dual sim version sold mainly in south-east Asia…

    • +4

Telstra locked 530 is single SIM.

Anyway, why did you decide to take that username? It's a vulgar word in my (our?) native language!

      • haha i didnt recoginise his username after reading your comment

        • +1

Plus, the combination of his username and his avatar is PRICELESS.

      • +1

        Hahah u notice ay hahah

        • I hadn't noticed it until I saw your avatar. Lol! Still remember the prank video. Poor the guy but his facial expression is so damn hilarious!

    • Mine is single only single sim, not dual sim.

    • They have mentioned that some WP will get a butchered version of Windows 10 Mobile. I think 530s were one of them (the ones with 512MB RAM)

  • Can someone confirm if the unlock is working? :D

    • +1

      working for me.
      :)

      • +1

        Working for me too.

    • +1

Yep. Worked 100% for me this afternoon.

  • Cannot find any stock in Sydney…

    • West Ryde, Hornsby, North Ryde all showing low stock (call ahead).

That is the 3 stores closest to me…

Same applies to Auburn, Wentworthville and Northmead.

Not as good a deal, but plenty of stock at Dick Smith for same phone for $59…

  • +1

I was looking to get one of these on the weekend, and the best price I could find was $59 at Dickies (Optus locked, same as this). It'd cost me more than $10 to drive to my nearest OW and back…

I can also confirm that I got the unlock code free with the link.

  • Northmead has 5+ phones..bought one 30 mins back…good luck

  • Anyone tried this on the Optus Lumia 640 prepaid?

    • anyone tried unlocking on 640 ?

  • Can you unlock the Telstra one using this, or not because the code wouldn't be in the database?

  • would skype/viber work with this?

    • +1

YES to both but without front camera, it's hard to video call. Good for chatting and voice calls.

  • @ozshaz..can u pls help me.. Seems to be a simple unlock with a valid imei number. But something is not correct.. I can forward the imei to u..

  • has anyone used the unlocking link to unlock the sony experia e1?

    • Yes. It worked for me this morning

  • BTW, how is the performance of nokia 530 cmp to Iphone 4/4s??? officeworks ask me to sign some papers before buying…what does it mean?

    • They need your personal details because the government wants it for every mobile phone user.

I have free screen protectors, I changed my mind on the model but have bought screen protectors so free for lucky member.

  • Out of stock in Melbourne Bourke St store, even though it says in stock.

  • I tried the unlock link and it's asking $80 to unlock the Nokia 530.. Can anyone please show me the precise procedures to get the free unlock?

  • You don't even need to activate the Optus SIM before you unlock…

Can't find a phone number with the phone, so what phone number should be used for unlocking form (linked above), if haven't activated its sim? Does another Optus number, not associated with the phone being unlocked, work?

    • No need for anything but a contact number, thanks GreatWhiteHunter. Unlock worked fine for me.
None left at Aspley or Windsor in Brisbane.

      • Hi..Im still having the same problem. I have activated the sim card. but when i try to unlock it says we will call u in 5 days.. Can u pls help me

        • Did it fail when trying to get an unlock code from the Optus website? What error message did you get? If you have already unlocked another phone, can you try again using a different internet connection/IP address, e.g. a VPN. This may work. My comment below refers.

        • @oztonyau: I found the issue. Initially i have activated my optus sim and tried to get the unlock code from the optus website. During that time I was getting the "No Unlock code found" error.
Today, I changed my mobile @northmead officeworks and tried to get the unlock code before activating the optus sim. I got the unlock code and my mother is using the phone now :)

  • Now, i have phone and unlock code…but how to unlock the phone? there is no further instruction anywhere.

    • I think you need to insert a non-Optus sim card.

      • +1

        Edy4eva is correct

Insert a non-OPTUS sim and start the phone.

It will prompt you for the unlock code.

  • +2

For anyone having trouble obtaining the unlock code:

The unlocking page rejected my request for second unlock code. Message said that had exceeded the number of activations and to try again tomorrow. Tried again with different name and phone number, failed again, same message. However when changed IP address, but using same details, request accepted.
So if you are getting a similar message, suggest try using a different IP address, e.g. use a VPN or a different internet connection.

    • I haven't open the package and tried to unlock using the IMEI number outside the box with my Vodafone mobile number for the form, and it asked for $80 unlock fees. Should I turn on the phone with my Vodafone SIM card and try the unlock form from a different computer again? Do I have to fill in an Optus mobile number for the form?

      • +1

GreatWhiteHunter told me that the phone number number makes no difference for obtaining the unlock code, and I have confirmed this is correct. So I believe you will be unable to unlock that particular phone's IMEI for free, no matter what you do. Therefore I believe you should not open it, but instead return it to Officeworks, and exchange it for another. The issue may be the phone or that batch, so in case the whole batch at that store is not earmarked by Optus for free unlocking, it may be preferable to exchange it at another store if you can easily do that. Otherwise try a different 530 from the same Officeworks store.

        • Thanks.. I wonder if any reasonable reasons I can use to exchange something unopened at officeworks…

        • @Maxii: No problem there, especially if unopened. Believe they still have a 30 day exchange policy, confirmed by the customer opened and returned items in the bargain bin at my local Officeworks yesterday :)

        • @oztonyau: Thanks! Will give it a go!

  • Hi,

will this free unlock work with other Optus phones?
http://www.optus.com.au/shop/prepaidmobile/microsoft/lumia-5… This is a better device, twice the ram and storage. I'm hopeful that it will support Windows 10 Mobile.

Optus unlock policy states that if phone is less than 6 months old, an $80 unlock fee applies.

    • +1

No doubt the 532 is a better phone than the 530, if only for the addition of voice guided navigation, missing on the 530. My guess is that they are giving the free unlock on the 530 to help clear stock, because it is superceded. If the 532 is its current replacement, doubt that unlocking it would be free anytime soon. By the way, unlocked 532's are on special for $119 at DickSmith.

      • Thank you. I did see the deal at DS for $119 which would make it cheaper than paying $89 for phone and $80 for unlock.

There are a few improvements in the 532. It is newer stock (Jan 2015).
Front facing camera. 8GB storage and 1GB ram.
slightly heavier at 136g vs 129g

        • If you're with telstra you can get a locked 532 for $99 at woolworths

  • has anyone used the unlocking link to unlock the sony experia e1? or other optus phones?

    • Yes I recently bought a brand new Optus Sony Xperia E1 prepaid and the online Optus Mobile Unlocker immediately spat out a free unlock code for it straight away.

However it wouldn't work for any of my three Optus Nokia Lumia 530 which I bought they were all not a locked device apparently which is not true.

  • Getting following msg.

You have exceeded acceptable usage limits for this transaction.
    Please try again tomorrow.

    Edit: Works. Thanks OP.

  • they have got caught this.
    getting following error meg:
"you device is already unlocked and not locked to optus"
    But it is.

  • hi - unlock no issues, but for the Netflix- have to sign up to an optus pre paid plan?? is there a way around this?? cheapest is $30 per month?!

    • You dont need to signup for any plan to get netflix

      Just activate the SIM

and then you'll get a text in 24-72 hours with the netflix link/code

    • Did you unlock after 29th of May?

  • online I need to choose my plan and phone number prior to activation..does this not actually mean anything?

    • well it depends if you plan using that SIM or not

If not, it doesnt matter what you select

You dont have to pay anything to activate the SIM and you dont need to give a credit card number to do it

  • May I know does anyone unlock it after 29th of May by using this link?

  • The link is asking for an $80 unlock fee on a 530 I purchased on 29 May 2015. Not sure but it appears maybe Optus found this link and decided to implement an unlocking fee??

  • Tried it and Got the following message: "Error
This mobile device is not a locked Optus prepaid mobile device."

  • Thanks for this, worked for $29 Lumia 530 from DSE!
