Nice phone, I have the 802T. Was $300 from OS or local refurb with warranty.

    Understand the carrier frequencies.

    • +1

This one works out to 300 AUD.
Any tip on where to find a local refurb

      • +1

Was on eBay, stock is likely intermittent.

  • +2

No umts 900 says no complete Optus 3G, (only get 3g on 2100)

    • +1

Yeah, it's treally only going to be a good handset for people on Telstra Wholesale (Telechoice, Lyca, ALDI) or Boost

  • -1

    how does warranty work?

  • +1

it will come up around 300 AUD. meeeh

  • +1

+1 for incorporating TayTay into the ozbargain community.

    • Can I -1 just for using the word TayTay?

  • -1

Last time I posted this wasn't very popular. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180608

Might be a dupe!! It is the same link.

    • -1

That expired but was never marked as expired. This is a one day sale.

      • I thought this was a one day sale??

    • I've also commented about this before, was US$209 at the time, and apparently still is. With the US dollar the way it is ATM though, nothing from eBay US is much of a deal any more.

  • would this be an upgrade for a NOTE 2?

    • Specs wise, yes. Screen size, no (however, G2 size is arguably more manageable for a normal sized hand)

      • thanks Mister popo, the only thing that's stopping me now is the bloody low AUD… :(

  • +2

How does it stack against nexus 4? Does it have Android 5 yet?

    • +1
    • +1

Better all round.. harware wise it's better than Nexus 5 (which is it's cousin - very similar phones)
      Much Better Battery
      Much better Camera
and overall much better than the Nexus 4

    • See if you can get CM12 on it, it is amazing!

      • Currently mashing out this response from a G2 running Cyanogenmod 12. Absolutely rock rolid, seeing 6+hrs screen time with ~15hrs standby

    • +4

I've a Nexus 4 (brilliant phone), but this (G2) isn't a big enough of an upgrade to warrant the price for me.

However, the G2 is an all-round better phone.

      The G2:

      • has a much larger screen, on a relatively similar body size. Also higher resolution (1080p vs 720p)

      • battery is among the best for that era, while the Nexus 4's was one of the worst or mediocre at best.

      • Camera is obviously much, much better.

      • Software-wise, I doubt it has Android 5 (yet)… but of course, you can put on CyanogenMod. The best, clearest and easiest instructions (in my opinion) are here at the AmigoTips

      • …but software wise, the G Skin has awesome things, like their Dual-App (for like YouTube and Chome, simultaneously), and Knock-On (which was later copied by HTC with their One M8).

…I honestly can't see any 'cons' for the G2 vs. the Nexus 4.

      • Possible con (subjective): I prefer the glass back of the Nexus 4, opposed to the glossy polycarbonate back of the G2.

(Note that they are both old phones. There's already a LG G3, and the G3 is old too; isn't LG's flagship anymore (is the LG G-Flex 2), and a Nexus 6.

  • Sorry, I'm rather ignorant about frequencies. I tried to search it up but I got super confused.
Will this work with Telstra's 4G network?

    • +1

See my post above - No use for any Oz 4G networks except patches of Vodafone's (yet to be rolled out?) 850MHz 4G.

      • Okay, thanks for the confirmation! I'll hold off then.
I wasn't sure because I googled and read something about Telstra expanding to 700Mhz. But I wasn't really sure. ^^

        • +1

They have (as have Optus) but there are multiple LTE Bands in the 700MHz range.. Australia uses Band 28, this phone supports Band 1

        • @scubacoles: Ah! That makes sense! Thanks for the clarification. :)

    • Edited

  • Won't debate whether or not this is a deal but thought I'd throw my 2c in elsewhere - I own a G2 and find it a great device. Have had higher end phones (G3, Note 3, S5, etc.) and seem to always come back to this. Perfect combo of screen size and quality, compact dimensions, and battery life. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't interested in modifying and customising their phones though, as the LG software is 100% unacceptable.

Keep in mind that warranty repair may be required - many users online (XDA as an example) have reported display issues. Personally I've noticed a slightly brighter 'halo' around the edges of my screen, though it hasn't really bothered me enough to return. The upshot of this is the screen is immensely bright, and IPS has a more neutral colour tone than AMOLED ever will.

    • Yeah, I'm about to RMA mine. It's been a great device apart from that though.

  • +2

I bought it last month from this seller! Delivered and works great. 4G with Vodafone works fine

    • how long did the shipping take?

    • masya, I just bought one. really excited!

      • Shipping was about 20 days

  • Considering I got one for $200 second hand, the price seems a bit steep. However, this is a great value phone that isn't ridiculously large. I moved from Nexus 4 and haven't looked back since.

    • Steep? And paying $200 for a used phone isn't?

      • Haha, maybe I was exaggerating. I don't know why but I accidentally thought OP's post was refurbished phones.

Can't recommend the phone enough though. It is really great phone for its price.

    • paying $100 more for a new phone? i dont see that as steep to be honest :) that's a difference i'd expect, compared to others on ebay you save about $20-$50 if you dont care about 4g ;)

i agree its a very good phone and the size is perfect :)

  • Well, just saved myself $312. Paypal wouldn't take my credit card. WTF knows what it didn't like, because it didn't tell me why it was declined.

  • I'm jinxed, and keep dropping my phone 5 screens on a Samsung galaxy s3, and a Motorola G (first gen), I've decided I need to get something that has a much stronger screen/body.

Can anyone recommend a suitable phone? I realise I can get an otterbox defender type case for almost any phone, but knowing my luck, I'd probably drop it 4 seconds after I take it out of the case to clean etc.

Budget: As little as possible, but I'd like a decent screen; not so concerned about anything else.

    • +1

Not this phone :) screen breaks fairly easily (my mum broke hers then my wife) and its not the easiest to replace… i'd just invest in a case and never clean it! hehehe

      • Helpful…. But any other phone suggestions? Do I just get another moto g?

    • How does that happen? Get a good dual sided leather case and keep it in your pocket when not using. Never had a screen break on me.

      • No Idea, before last year, I'd never had a screen break on me… Now the tally is at 6 in less than 12 months… I jinxed myself I think…

        • That's horrendous. We should demote you to an indestructible Nokia 5110 but knowing your luck you'd probably find a way of breaking that too!

        • @wolfenator87:

Lol, have a fully function 5110 in a drawer. Prior to 12 months ago, I had never had a broken screen or faulty phone… I must've upset someone somewhere.

        • @AG_ACT:I hope no one has put the evil eye on you!

    • Doesnt the LG G2 have Gorilla Glass 3 like the Nexus 5?

      • Unfortunately, so does a Moto G

    • I remember hearing that the technology used on G2's screen reduces the gap between the glass and the touch panel, but as a result, if screen goes, so does the touch panel. That's what I remember.

If you don't mind Windows Phone and AMOLED, I remember seeing people talking about how Lumia 730 has relatively decent screen, which I cannot vouch for but at least link the source.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182709

That being said, if you are used to Android, Windows Phone probably wouldn't be your cup of tea (I just brought it up because of 2 factors, cheap and relatively decent screen (I think).)

I remember hearing Galaxy Alpha used Gorilla Glass 4 (It might be something to look at.)

      • Thanks buddy, I'll definitely take a look. They are all like that these days, even on my Moto G, only the top glass has gone (basically, I can still use the phone per normal if I don't worry about the shard of glass going into my skin), but no one can replace just the glass, they replace the screen as a whole.

        • What I meant was, if the glass cracks, apparently ability to touch dies with it… That's what I meant with touch panel stuff. Though G2 really does look like a decent phone…

        • @AznMitch: Correct, though this is the case with pretty much all current flagships. The glass, display and digitizer are built into one piece - it means the device can be thinner.

        • @jackary: I am almost certain that that's LG's speciality. I've heard that it's actually fairly hard to do in terms of difficulty, not saying only LG can do it, but I think it is copy righted. I've seen few people using their phone with cracked screen, so I don't know.

        • @AznMitch: Optical bonding is a fine art to a manufacturer, and, yes, some of the methods used I'm sure are proprietary. Though nothing is new with the way the G2 is put together. In fact Apple have used a similar technique since the iPhone 5.The only "standout" with the G2 display I can recall is that it uses 2 touch sensors. Could this be what you're referring to?

        • @jackary: Nah, what I meant was G2 uses something called Touch Hybrid Display, what they have done was they basically removed the touch panel film and coated the glasses with the film, so I've heard. Also,
apparently, they've reduced the gap between film sensor and the coating itself as well. So glass goes, so does the film, so I've heard. Though, you might be right, it might be just a simple variation on in-cell technology (which Apple did use with iPhone 5), I am still having a hard time putting my head around the whole jargons.

I was not referring to geometry of subpixels, which of course is proprietary (i.e. Samsung has patents on certain types of pentile display subpixel patterns.)

        • @AznMitch: Well there you go, I have learnt something new today. Though LG Innotek may call it "hybrid touch display", it certainly isn't new.

        • @jackary: You are right, I thought it was fairly a rare technology. It was at least back in the times when I've researched this, apparently it's fairly common practice now… Stupid marketing terms confusing me. I've learnt a new thing too.

    • You could try a glass screen protector on your next phone. For example, http://youtu.be/QFwt5-TUJoM

I use a Nillkin branded one (9HR) on my phone, and the feel is very good (as if it is not there). However, I've never dropped this phone before, so I can't comment personally on how it protects. (If you believe the video, it's quite strong!)

      • Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I have cheeped out previously but $24.99 is better than a broken screen for sure

        • You should be able to find one <$15 on eBay (depending on what phone you have).

      • A screen protectot isn't going to save a screen from cracking when dropped…
AG_ACT needs to get a good quality leather flip case and probably not get quite so drunk so often :-) !

        • These ones are supposed to. Whether they do or not? I have no direct experience. But the guy in the video gets pretty crazy with a hammer. Even if its smoke and mirrors, it's pretty good viewing :)

        • @gakpie: I've heard that the screen protectors are good for protecting the screens from damages to the screen which is coming from the front. They apparently spread the weight. Though I've heard that if you drop your phone sideways, the screen protectors don't do much.

        • :) Sad thing is I don't drink…. imagine how clumsy i'd be if I did drink.

Phone was in a case each time (admittedly only in a leather flip case on one of these occasions). Nothing prevents stupidity I'm afraid.

I'll try a glass screen protector, and I'm also thinking of a Otterbox Defender Case… Any views?

        • @AznMitch:

          They apparently spread the weight.

Yeah, makes sense.. the air-gap between the two will form a cushion.
Still not going to be anywhere near as good as a flip case though..

        • @scubacoles: Yeah, but most of the drops puts pressure from side, where the protectors don't do much. So I've heard that it doesn't translate well to real life.

  • Do we have to pay import duty? How much?

  • i'd hold out for Australian stock with warranty

  • whats is the audio quality like ? I am using a galaxy S3 with wofson audio. I dont want an audio downgrade. Need a phone with really good audio to pair with my UE900's

    • I can't seem to find RMAA results from any other website other than a Korean website, here is the link if you are intested. It might be because I never had the need to go to English sites for RMAA results. At the very least, RMAA results are all in English on the page so if you wanna see where I am coming from, link is there.

At Frequency Response, Noise Level, and Stereo Crosstalk test, the website results with their condition and their sample, S3 and G2 were relatively similar, (they pretty much focus more on the comparisons with Galaxy S4 with snapdragon 800, so I cannot really say.)

From what I gather, RMAA results become better with 24 bits, 192kHz music files, from another article on LG G2.
That being said, RMAA results should be read with grain of salt.

Anyways, I thought a review by whathifi on sound quality might help better, so here it is.
      http://www.whathifi.com/lg/g2/review

      • I think I will give it a miss. This comment is about what I expect from a qualcomm dac :

"After doing a head to head with my Wolfson GS3, I returned mine today. With detailed IEMs, it was not that close. Tied on some songs, won none. And lost a lot."

I think I will wait and get a wolfson enabled note4

Just a reminder that d800 has different band compared to the international (d802) or Australia version (d802ta) of this phone. Also this is AT&T branded (d800) and won't be able to use Australian 4g except Vodafone

I would wait for the international version
