I think you may be in the wrong place, OzMate.

    • Huh? At first OB gathering (Brissie) the majority of participants were from Asian families. We were told OB originated from Asian student need.
And 2nd most commonly spoken language in Australian homes (ABS)… Mandarin!
      OzMate!

    tvpad is really good.

Able to watch Chinese, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Korean, and Japanese tv live streaming!

My parents love it. We have two boxes at home!

    • Does it have CCTV News the English language channel?

      • +1

I dont exactly remember as I dont use the China app much. (I only use the Japanese and Korean app)

But if I remember correctly tt has a few English channels. HBO, CNN, Nat Geo, Discovery, and a few other ones.

You you the usual CCTV1-12 + others and many more…

        • Do you have to pay anything on an ongoing basis?

        • No ongoing cost for the Tvpad.

        • No payment ongoing, aside from your internet and power bills.

i prefer steamed buns to steamed televisions

      • haha :)

        • lol

    • can we use it as well for grilling?

    • Hi!

Does streaming slow your network down at all on your computers?

  • hi Rep, you have anything which runs Indian Channels?

    • I think you need to look into something called Jadoo TV. It does something for the South Asian streaming channels. You can check out their website for all the details.

    • With my satellite dish I sometimes see some indian channels, though not sure what they are.

  • +1

TVPAD is overpriced. can get the same stuff for 50 bucks

    • +4

Please submit link thanks. Very interested in watching HK TV for a much lesser price.

      • google "wobo i5"
it does has Chinese, Hong Kong, Taiwan, but no Vietnam, Korean, and Japanese TV. AND it has all latest movies/dramas/cartoons/entertaining programs for streaming.

        • i got an mk908 quad core rk3188 and it come loaded with an app called PPTV HD im pretty sure its the same sort of thing. only if i knew how to speak chinese. it looks so cool. here's the link to it. pair it up with a logitech k400r and it works like a dream. faster than my computer and streams HD like nobody's buisness. xbmc compatible blah blah blah it's fricken awesome!

          http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/MK908-Quad-Core-Mini…

        • it's different from PPTV. It's streaming from their own servers. You can also install PPTV or PPS in the box since it's operated by Android OS.

        • about wobo i5, how is the streaming performance in Australia? Does it come with the compatible power adapter?

        • TVpad as a PPTV app too I think. I dont use it since I watch Korean/Japanese live tv.

        • +9

He asked for a link, you should provide one instead of directing people to Google.

        • I just got Wobo i5 dual CPU version. it's has android 4.2.2 system, but main menu just has Chinese version. So if u can reader Chinese words that one is really really good for use. So nice. I love it and my parents so love lt.

    • Can you share with us?

    • yeah what can you get for $50?

Does it have Chinese, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Korean, and Japanese TV streaming?

    • Cheaper devices could be using the same streams that can be viewed from a PC/browser.

      • No Korean or Japanese tv though?

    • no link = hoax

  • Hi Rep,

Does this have the apps for the HK Channels (TVB, ATV etc…) installed already? Or do we have to do it ourselves?

    Thanks,

    • I think I've just answered my question, but here's the link for anyone else
      http://tvpad2.com.au/channels/

It looks like all the HK free to air channels are there.

  • +2

for those who don't know, it's a streaming box.

this deal's price is meh - have seen cheaper.
    have tried this box already
available channels/content is meh. Not all "good channels" are available.
I sold it to someone else.

If you can offer lower price and include those "good channels" then yes I will buy it.

    • reminder : you're selling to tightass asians here.
    • Just want to ask where you've seen it cheaper? Is it for the same one or for the first generation tvpad?

Also just for interest, what are the "good channels" that you're missing?

    • Hi superkieu

Thanks for your feedback, unfortunately we don't made this box, it already included lots good channels, some people love it. I will forward your feedback to Tvpad, hopefully they can improve more.

    • yes would like to know where you've seen cheaper.

official site selling for US$229 (~aud$259)
ebay.au $245 appears to be cheapest, most aus resellers around $259

compared to this deal which is $209

      • Before ebay price changes ~10% fees etc..

        TVPAD1 was $180
        TVPAD2 was $240

That's how much I got mine for about a year ago.

$209 for TVpad2 is pretty good.

  • •Join Hands with WASU

  • since it's streaming, is it just streaming off internet content that I can just view on my PC? Similar to the youtube boxes etc?

    • +1

some channel you can watch in the PC but not all, remember this unit is cheaper than most PC, and come with remote control, it will be much more easy to setup and control it.

      • And who does not have a PC nowadays? Comparing the price of this and a PC is nonsense.

        • +2

Elderly people - my grandmother, aunties, in fact NOBODY in my family above age 65 owns a PC.

One of these boxes would be perfect for them (if they spoke Chinese.)

My non-English-speaking mother-in-law used a box like this to watch overseas TV shows when she visited Australia. She has no idea how to turn on a computer, let alone set up streaming software.

Who wants to sit in front of their computer to relax and watch TV shows anyway? Not me. I want to get as far away from the computer as posible after work.

    • Maybe if you find a free streaming thing that gives me Japanese & Korean TV it would be great.

  • Are they in HD?

    • I watch the main HK channel and it's HD counterpart, you wont get crisp HD quality like you do with youtube 720p or ABC24 live stream HD.

You will get something which is okay. Not great and not bad. At least you can watch LIVE tv from asian countries without being in the country.

      Usually ~3-5min delay.

  • Thumbs up for the awesome description alone.

Its a must buy if you/r parents want to watch live asian tv.

    • +2

If you are asian and your parents are bored buy this they will love you for it.

      • my oldies still prefer the good old satellite; no lag and clearer and more asian channels

      • my parents don't understand english so this = more entertainment. especially those crazy japanese game shows

List of channels for Chinese/Taiwan/Hong Kong:

    http://tvpadguide.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/tvpad-channel-list…

    For Korean & Japanese:

    Korean:
solive app or the other HD one (cant remember the name).

SBS, SBSHD, KBS1, KBS1HD, KBS2, KBS2HD, MBC, MBC HD, YTN, OCN, MBC Dramanet and a few more cant remember off top of head.

    Japanese:
NHK, NHK G, NTV, TBS, Fuji TV, Asashi TV, Tokyo TV. You are missing the MTV and the other ones (they used to have it but was taken off).

    • Hey Turd, just wondering if you can tell me the name of the Japanese app you have for this?

I'm interested in a TvPad2, but only for Japanese content.

      Thanks.

      • I think I've answered my own question, looks like the app is called Niji (or niji show app)?

        • Yes niji show app.

Note: If you want to watch japanese tv I would recommend getting tvpad1, because the nijishow app on tvpad2 has Audio sync issues.

          From somewhere else:
"Also, there is some lag in the Japanese niji show app (audio and video are not in sync). The TVpad management already knows this and they are planning to release a fix in the near future."

I have both and can definitely tell sync issue when they speak with tvpad2.

        • Cool thanks, still weighing up options.

  • Just wondering if anyone has had lag issues with any channels? especially korean ones?

    • +2

From the initial loading sometimes there is lagg, and sometimes when you are watching there is bits of blips or 'lag'. Depends on the time/day amount of people viewing. It's not perfect but better than nothing.

      • Ah, thanks for that. Reason I'm asking is because i've tried to watch SBS korea off their website at about 8-10pm and it lags really bad (pauses every 10 seconds or so). Any idea if this would be the same? or do they have their own servers?

        • +1

Oh what you just described is not what I experience
I watch SBS usually when the dramas are on and etc dont get those issues.

It's different servers, It's someone who has access to the channel and broadcasting it to a server to redirecting stream. Not direct from the SBS Korea website.

        • OK awesome, thanks for that info!

  • Hi Rep, out of stock now?

    • I just called and they said stock was arriving tomorrow so back orders should be filled pretty quickly.

  • Could you record the stream to iron out the lag with this unit?

    • The 'lag' isnt that bad. I dont know what the 'lag' is caused by it's honestly not that bad.

You can "record" too just get VLC player enter your tvpadbox IP address and click the record button!

      • Thanks, do you mean VLC player for PC and use your pc to record stream from TVpad IP? Is setting this up easy?

        • Yep VLC player for PC. Easy. Install VLC Player. Goto File enter your IP address and the correct port. Then VLC player will play exactly what the tvpad is streaming. VLC player allows recording of streaming video.

ie. If you have tvpad in one room, and laptop in another you can watch the same channel at the same time.

        • What VLC port should we use?

  • out of curiosity, does it stream the Voice of China?

    • Yes. You can watch it love when it's on air.

I think it's on CCTV2? I cant remember. Though it's on late like 12pm or 1am. Due to the time differences.

    • Yes. In the Mainland China Channels app "BETV 2" under the channel "浙江卫视高清"

  • I am interested to know what exactly is the streaming resolutions? So to calculate how much data used per day.

    • Varies I think I see it range from 100k/s to 500k/s maybe 700k/s.

I was reading somewhere ages ago that it uses about 2-4GB an hr for a stream.

If you have unlimited TPG internet this wont matter :D

      • your download limit won't matter but your connection reliability will suck

        • -3

It's ok liberals NBN will be better than what we have now. -.-

    • Their FAQ page says about 1-2 Gb consumed per hour.

It also says a 2Mb or higher network speed is required for reliable streaming ("if you aim to smoothly watch").

http://tvpad2.com.au/faq-questions/ ~ the English FAQ is below the Chinese version.

      • im on optus network and i have trouble streaming smoothly. my speedtest is almost 6mbps but it lags…

        • On page 2 of this deal ITGUY mentions this product will not work on Optus:
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114679?page=1#comment-15650…

        • Optus direct those Asian bandwidth(accessing China/HK/Taiwan/maybe Japan/Korea server) to their own Singapore Singtel network, which is sucks, to save their cost!

that's why all streaming & ping is sucks on Optus……if you access a lot of Asian sites!

    • Approx. 180GB per month if you watch 5-6 hours per day.

  • +1

Ok I have a similar box currently in use - although I watch it all the time, here are some issues I have

    1) frequently "freezes" up when changing channels
    2) stops working altogether when software update required - downtime can be a day or more
    3) some channels not very clear
    4) limitation of english channels; of the 160 available I think I could count about 10 english channels overall.
    5) overall slow channel changing

How does this box address these issues? if it is any better, I would be interested in buying…

    • +1
      1. Define "freezing"? Like you have to reset the whole unit? When I change channels It's smooth and great, takes about 10-20seconds to load due to the buffering that the app does.

      2. Never happens.

      3. Clear is subjective. Also may related to your Internet or such.

      4. This isnt really a English channel box.

      5. It's not instant if that's what you mean.

I might make a recording of my tvpad in use tonight and post on utube!

      • 1) sometimes stops working and I have to reset
        3) not clear as in worse than old crt - 80s film quality or below (not all channels; mainly the english ones)
        4) perhaps its not an english channel box but thats what i use it for - still better than nothing

also i am using in hong kong where internet is way faster than what i had in australia so its not a lag issue

        • +1

ill get a video on tonite showing tvpad 1 and tvpad 2

  • Placed a backorder, when will you received more stock? I have a friend coming over from China in 2 weeks to stay. I hope to receive it around that time to keep them occupied when I am at work.

  • +1

PS. I do not work for mobiciti. I just love the TVPAD! :D!!!

    • +1

      Do you work for tvpad?

      • No I do not. ive been using the tvpad for 1 and half years…

  • Hi rep, can you post overseas?? Or only Australia?

  • +2

Ok i have to comment on this one.

    Pros:
FREE live program from overseas (mainly for TVB)

    Cons:
Yes, lousy reception most of the time
    Takes forever to turn on
Takes forever to switch a different channel (on TVB)
response on the remote it slow - must have big clearance for the remote to sensor what you're pressing
You'll need unlimited bandwidth to stream all this (or at least 80gb/m if you watch daily)
Wireless is very slow (although they do emphasise on using LAN - im not going to stretch a 25m cable across the house or using power socket LAN (use up more electrickery)).
Not sure if TVB or the channels make this unwatchable in future due to copyright and legal.
    Box is too slow overall.
    Cannot record

You can get these for $180-$220 from plenty of sellers on ebay which where it originally started selling. ($10 shipping)
    $209 isn't a deal really.

    • +1

      I have one of these.
And I have to agree with what's been said by Dnkei above.

      Most pertinent point is

If you're intending to use the wireless function to stream it, don't buy one.
      It is too painful.
I use a 6m CAT6 cable to connect from the router.
