Sanity currently have a bundle deal where you can purchase a Panasonic 3D Blu Ray player for $99 if you bundle it with four titles from the 4 for $50 deal - either Blu Rays or DVD's. Delivery is $15 making the total bundle come to $164.00 delivered, or there is a Sydney pick up option. Currently unsure whether this offer is available in stores.

The titles in the Blu Ray deal seem reasonably good value and included some fairly recent titles including The Hobbit (exclusive cover art), Lord Of The Rings, animation titles, and some 3D titles. DVD titles include Skyfall and Silver Linings Playbook. It just depends what you are into, there are 745 Blu Ray titles and 1200 DVD titles to choose from. Have fun!

The cheapest I could find the Panasonic 3D Blu Ray player alone was $163 from appliancesonline so overall this deal seems quite good to me if you are in the market for a 3D player.

UPDATE: Walked past Sanity late this afternoon. This is advertised and available instore "while stocks last". Price updated to $149 accordingly.

Good value I think. The available blu-rays include decent ones like LoTR and The Hobbit.

  • I was thinking about purchasing it but does anyone know how to make the dvd region free?

I've searched google but found nothing.

Edit - I found out that if you contact Panasonic, they can arrage for you to get your player dvd region free by taking it to one of their service centres for free. :)

I recently purchased a Panasonic 3D Bluray player (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110325) and discovered that it's region-free straight out of the box, you don't need to do anything. :)

EDIT: different model, but seems to be a standard Panasonic thing

      • So not even entering codes with the remote every time you want to switch regions?!

        • +1

Correct - it has no DVD region locking on it, so it will play DVD's from anywhere. Plus many Blurays these days aren't region locked either, so essentially it will play almost anything.

  • Wouldn't it be a better idea to put the money towards a PS4?

    • Warning- going OT:
For this non-gamer, with a mythtv based media centre HTPC setup, is there any compelling reason to consider a PS4 in lieu of a stand alone BlueRay player?

      Thanks

      • No there is no benefit if you are a non-gamer

    • +7

If all you do is play movies a PS4 is an expensive way to go. Not everyone is a gamer.

      • +2

Yeah I bought a ps3 thinking the same thing and then realised I only really used it as a Blu-ray player :p

        • +1

In the beginning, the PS3 was streets ahead of most BD players on the market in terms of loading speed, networking, firmware updates etc. I think it even included 3D support with a firmware update.

        • You are correct, it has 3D support

    Whoa, Sanity still exists?

    • +1

      Of course they do.

Compared to JB, their customer service is great. Plus, their staff know their product.

  • I'm sure someone will post this up soon, but JB have started a new 3 for $32 deal on blu ray again, with some great titles. Just ordered 12…

Just noticed that TOM CRUISE is in the background picture for the SANITY website. Tom Cruise and sanity… something just doesn't compute here…

    Tom Cruise is in(sanity)!

Put your manners back in, or he'll come around and jump on your couch.

      • I wish! hahaa…

  • Nice deal.. bought one! Been looking at this Blu-Ray player for some time :) Thanks OP!

  • Saw the signage up at my local Sanity today so assume it is in store too.

    Thanks OP,

I was about to buy this Blu-ray player a few weeks ago from Myer when it was on sale for $143.00 but thought I might be able to do better.

$149.00 with 4 Blu-ray movies is a much better deal.

Funny thing is when I think bargain….Sanity normally doesn't come to mind.

  • Anyone know if this particular blu-ray player allows you to resume from a disc, after switching off your system?
My previous player wasn't able to do that.

    • If you're watching a blu-ray disc then i am afraid that NO blu-ray players will allow you to resume from where you previously switched off.

The only way for this to happen is if the disc you are playing has the "bookmark" feature and you having to bookmark wherever you're up to.

Please feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

      • Some offer to resume without my prompting before I stopped playing it previously. Depends on the title.

      • Cheers for the responses.
        How about DVDs?

  • Not worth buying. All new blu-ray players have mandatory Cinavia so if you want to play those er USB films some won't. Massive fail. Unless you want to spend $149 purely for playing overpriced BD's.

    • Awwwwww no more pirating.

    • +2

Why would you buy a blu-ray player if you don't want to purchase "overpriced BD's"?

      Just get a media player.

You really aren't making a valid point.

      • which media player you recommend?

  • Don't know if its the same, but it looks the same

    http://www.binglee.com.au/panasonic-dmp-bd79-blu-ray-player

$99 shipped without having to buy the blu rays.
Unless you want the BR's of course …

    • Completely different model. That one doesn't do 3D.
