Cheap mobile phone prepaid iSIM

20

Hey everyone,

For those who do not use their mobile phones much but like to stay on top of the cut throat mobile phone market, consider iSim which is a subsidiary of Optus (so its not a dodgy start up). It is optus' way of grabbing the cheaper end of the market while continuing to charge more for other customers using the usual Optus brand name.

The deal for prepaid users is:

Call rates of 39c/min, billed per second
- advantage is if u talk for 6 seconds just to ask where are you? it costs u 4c rather than 68c in many other plans.
No flag fall on national calls
15c SMS (per message sent of 160 characters)

Also you can track your usage using the website to see what calls you made and whether they really are just charging you 4c for your 6 sec call. or calling them up. You can also opt for auto-topups by selecting a lower limit (say $1) so when ur credit falls to that level you can opt to topup automatically to $20 for example. I know plenty of people who walk around with prepaid phones wihtout credit.

ANyway, if you know a deal that beats this, let me know. I am actually a higher user of phones and looking for the best plan out there( doubt they can beat my existing one tho) please let me know.

  • I have actually been using iSIM for more than 2 years, and could not be happier. Yes I am using around $15 every 6 months, and iSim is perfect for those small users.

The credit expires after 6 months, and you only need $10 to top it up. It is on Optus network, so previously your optus friends can call you for free during their Yes time. It has recently been changed though.

  • Likewise, been using isim for 2-3 years

Like the way you can check all your details online, so you can check calls and length vs others where you have to trust them.

While support by phone costs, support via email is free and the responses have been quick and detailed.

Only issue with low $$ automatic top up point is that it doesn't occur until the next day, so you may be out of calling power until then.

As your credits roll over if you top up, then this is not a big issue

    • You mean, this one?

Does that 5c diversion trick still work? Anyone got an Optus prepaid that can confirm it? It has been posted more than 1 year ago, and I will be surprised that Optus has not patched this hole.

    • Well, looks like people are still talking about it in November 2006 (or whatever the date is on the last page of the thread), so I guess there is a good chance that it is still working today! Man. I think I am getting myself an Optus prepaid just to test it out.

      Thanks!
