I've forgotten my Cerberus password and haven't been able to reset it through any of the recovery methods they make available. Never really set it up properly, but it looked like it would be ok.

    • Its great. Especially useful for spying on your partner's phone :p

      • useful for spying on your partner's phone

Really? How? ¬¬ Asking for a friend ¬¬

Edit: I've tried to track my wife but it says "problem communicating with the device"? :(

    • Same here, set it up on my Acer Tab,havnt used it much, got it when it was on sale (10c),still worth getting.
Im also still testing Avast on my phone,so have not decided yet which to use/stick to,but most likely Cerb.

      Thanks OP

This is a great app. I paid using the Telstra credit I got from previous deals and its worth every cent.

    Even better free!

    • +1

and its funny how this android app gets more +1 than those free iOS apps that get listed on ozbargain

      • +2

Because it's android and people like it for a reason :)

      • Compare how many iOS apps vs Android apps that go free.

That could have something to do with it.

  • +7

bought it two days ago FFS

    • +1

Time to find a bargain to counteract the price you paid :P

    • -2

lodge a refund request with play store.

  • +4

Keeps telling me "Please verify that your internet connection is working and try again"

    • +1

      Same here, Ozbargained?

      • +1

Just AppGratis-bargained - Cerberus' FB page noted network issues earlier, before it was posted on here. :P

    • ok yeh getting this error too :/

    • this happened to me at first, but the second time it went through.

  • +4

To get your free licence, install AppGratis from the Play Store, install Cerberus and when you sign up / activate you will receive an e-mail notifying you that your free lifetime licence has been activated.

    • Thanks! I had already purchased the license so I wasn't sure of the procedure. Will add it to the OP now.

    • +4

You don't actually need to install app gratis to get the free license.

  • Highly recommended app/service. It got 222/0 votes last time it was on here: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/64471

  • how does this work if you already having an account (with free trial expired)? tried updating but can't manage to get the free ver :/ do i just make a new account or something?

    • +3

      New account.

      From their FB page:

A couple of clarifications on the promotion we are doing with AppGratis:
      - The promo will end at 1 PM GMT, June 7
      - It is only for new accounts created in this time frame. So if you already have an account with the free trial expired, unfortunately you can't get the full license for free.

We are getting a lot of new users, which means that the servers are a bit overloaded and we are receiving many support emails.
Please bear with us for a couple of days, and if you see any weird errors on the web dashboard (like "Error=QuotaExceeded") try to install the latest development version of Cerberus, that you can download here: https://www.cerberusapp.com/Cerberus_2.4beta.apk

      Thanks for your understanding!

  • Awesome app.
I'm wondering if there is any better security app out there and if there is I want to know what it is and jump ship cause this is awesome.

      • Bastard. Got my hopes up of finding a better security app!

    • With my limited playing/testing, IMHP, I think this (cerb) or Avast are the main players (atleast a year ago, when I got Cerb on sale).
I tried Lookout? (my memory sucks, lol) and could not get it to work/track/find me,etc BUT this was about a year ago.

Would also like to hear others opinions.

      Cheers

    • have been using Android lost (no need for account creation at all)

can control multiple android devices from their website

  • i've already got the app on my phone and never paid for it, so how do i tell if i really have a license. It always seem to work, was it ever free before?

    • Yeah, I'm the same.
It even says its free on the Play store.
      I'm confused now :-S

    • was on ozbargain before, I reckon because I also have an account I never paid for.
EDIT: someone beat me to it

  • +1

This is BS, I'm getting "Please verify that your internet connection is working and try again" as everybody is getting too.

    • Uninstall the app and reinstall it this seemed to fix it for my tablet.
Edit nevermind I was just lucky just keep trying.

    • +3

BS? It's called server load. These things happen; calm down.

  • Did anyone get the signup email saying:
Your free trial will expire on: 13 Jun 2013

I thought the email was supposed to say that you had a lifetime license. What did I do wrong?

EDIT Never mind. I found the second email in my junk email account saying that the lifetime license had been activated.

    • +1

Did you need to activate your account through a email activation link or was the in app setup sufficient? Oh just tested no activation link just sing up through app and it auto activates for you. Although if you sign up through the app you lose the option to sign up for the app in a different email so be aware of this if signing up for loved ones.you won't be able to sign up for yourself even if you uninstall / clear app data.

  • OK, say my phone gets lost, someone picks it up, throws away the sim card, deletes all the apps. What can Cerberus do now? (assuming no password lock)

    • -1

If when they take it they instantly take the battery and sim out and when turning it back on do a factory reset. There is nothing that can be done as far as I'm aware.

    • +2

You can set it to notify you the device location and new sim card info if your sim is replaced And if you install it via recovery (unlocked bootloader required) it'll survive a factory reset.

      • They state factory reset but from my little testing when they say factory reset they mean the option to delete all accounts and uninstall everything. Using a factory reset tool that flashes stock kernel and ofw/rom wipes it. Flashing via recovery just adds it as a system app so it can't be deleted without some knowledge.

More than likely most crooks are just gonna do an on device reset which won't wipe this app so shouldn't be an issue.

        • slim chance of a nerdy thief… unless the thief is surrounded by geeky friends

most thieves would prefer to offload the phone asap on gumtree

        • Meh tablet voting doesn't work well for me sorry tried to pos vote you.

  • +4

My worry is that someone somehow hacks Cerberus website itself, and sends a command to all phones to wipe its SD card/factory reset

    • I haven't tried it but i think you can make a recovery image using 2nd boot. Which can be used to roll back any firmware based changes. Combined with regular Titanium backups stored and copied to your computer.

You just need to worry about stored phone numbers, recent call list, and stored sms

    • +1

you have to give Cerberus on your phone permission to allow those commands to work while setting it up. If you don't wipe won't occur.

    • Yeah that concerns me too.

    • Never thought about that but that is sorta scary…

  • Cant you just use AndroidLost? Its completely free.

    • Cerberus is great, it's free for life if you sign up above.

  • Worth every cent of its asking price and amazing app for free!
So excellent if you like it afterwards you should consider buying the license just to support the devs.

  • -1

Sigh, they made it free, now they can't handle the capacity.

Don't get your phone stolen now! :\

  • I paid for this one when I first got my Nexus 4, gets the job done though I haven't lost my phone yet.

  • +1

Has anyone been able to go past the initial loading screen? Mine keeps on saying connection problem.

Edit: Nevermind, it worked after a couple of tries.

    • that's the problem, you have to keep on trying to able to get connected.

  • +4

I think I've played enough Mass Effect to know not to trust that name…

    • But the logos aren't even the same I'm sure it's safe….. >.> <.<

  • Is it getting ozbargained??

    • Yep just keep reloading the app till you get the account sign up page.

  • Installed; thanks OP.

  • How is this better than the Anti-Theft functionality of the free Avast! security?

    • +2

it is much more than ANti-theft,
      here's just one example.

I have set it up to take a picture and email me every time someone enters a wrong screen unlock code thrice.

Luckily for me all I get are Photos of my kids in bad lighting as they try to get into my phone.

      Quite funny really.

  • I got an email saying I was a new user, but it didn't say anything about Life Time license…?
Also, I installed this on my tablet and my phone, but I installed it first on my tablet. Will my phone have the full license?
I hope so, because I don't even need it that much on my tablet. :/

    • +1

Yes, the app license should be registered to the account, not the specific devices.
As for the license email, this is what I got:

      Hi,
The license for your "[username]" Cerberus account has been activated for free, thanks to a promotion in collaboration with AppGratis.

Please open Cerberus on your device and log in to access the app settings, you should not see the "Buy license" option anymore. This means that the lifetime license for your account is active.

That email arrived at the same time as the welcome email, so you should have both. If not, then you might want to uninstall and try again.

      • +1

Didn't get that one, but I can't see "Buy Full License" anywhere. See the email I got below.

EDIT: Yes I did get the email, it was in my junk mail, even though it was from the same email address, one in the inbox, one in junk. All good now. :)

    • Yeah full license covers 5 android devices so shouldn't be any issue there.

  • Expired, it's listed as yesterday's app, dang, I wanted to have a look at it

    • I got the app 90mins ago, so might still be valid. You can just download via Play store, no need for AppGratis.

      • oh, righto, lemme go look again

  • +1

    This is the email I get;

    Hi and welcome to Cerberus!

    Your username is: xxxx

You can control Cerberus remotely through the website…. etc

Edit: Accompaning email was in junk mail (same sender). Problem solved.

  • don't think this works with dual sim phones

    • don't see why unless its a software limitation they haven't factored in. but just so you know you can add as many (I think it's unlimited) sims to the Allowed list as you want.

  • +2

trust me this is the best anti theft apps out there, be hurry to get it.

  • +3

paid full price for this over a year ago, definitely recommend this app for all android phones!

  • a recommended app…..got it free a long time back when they had a special (I think) but works perfectly

  • As many have said before me,
I've tried many and this is the best that's out there.

  • awesome app.
Got my lifetime sub a while back

  • I'm currently in the trial period, I can't see a Delete Account link. I'm guessing I have to uninstall, install and hopefully it will ask me to set up a new account?

This is great because I'm on holiday and without my Telstra prepaid sim to pay for the licence.

    • I don't know if that will work I tried deleting the app and any data related to the app before uninstall and I couldn't make a second account on the same device. well even if you can't get it for free I'd still reccomend purchasing it as it's def worth the price.

      • +1

Yeah, I was more than happy to pay for the licence but I've figured it out. I'll donate to the developer instead.

        1. Log into the cerberusapp.com NOT from your device
        2. Go to Device Settings
        3. Select your device and click 'Delete device'
Optional if you want to reuse your email address
        4. Go to Account
        5. Change your email address to some other address

You should now be able to register a new account with your existing email address

  • Seems like there are issues with the Internet connectivity with this App. Reviewers are complaining about same issue. How does this app then use the internet to send a snap shot of a thief !!!

    • +1

eh it's just getting hammered atm it works fine when they're not offering it for free. so don't lose your phone till the promos over lol.

  • Just installed now still free if done in the right order.

    • Did you get an email? I set up an account about 20 mins ago with a new email address, still nothing.

      • +1

Check your spam/junk. Some people have had the second email go into there.

  • does you phone need data for the website to track it?
if so it means who ever has your phone needs to have either wifi or data, therefore you may not be able to track the phone if you didn't have data turned on.

    • +1

when datas not on you can use sms commands to turn things on or off.
https://www.cerberusapp.com/help.php (second question shows all sms commands)
"cerberus password enabledata" so replace password with your password and text from another phone best thing is cerberus hides/deletes and blocks the notification from these sms's so the crook doesn't know whats going on.

  • This deal is over and it's not even 11:00PM.

    • +1

No it's not. Still free for me

      • Thanks, it does work via the provided link but when I tried via appgratis it said the deal was over.

  • +2

I got a free lifetime license a while back, but then ended up donating anyway because it's so good and worthy of support.

  • app getting ozbargained?????
    it's not downloading…………..only 1.2MB…and been 10 min on WIFI…not done yet.

  • +1

    Cool. Thanks!

The welcome email was in my inbox, the email about the licence being activated for free was in the Junk folder. Weird.

    • Same.

  • Thanks for posting this, OP.

Cerberus looks to be a simple, yet amazing app.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever had their phone stolen and used Cerberus (or a similar app) to track their phone? Did you use show this app (or similar) to the Police? What was the end result? Would love to hear of some justiceporn!

  • Grabbed it but little bit concerned about these timeout issues. Are their servers not able to cope with all our devices? I know there's extra load during registration but still let's hope they can keep things running smooth once the registrations end

  • App is ok, but it only works if the phone is connected to the internet. If someone finds/steals your phone and turns off wifi and mobile data, then you are powerless to find/stop them.

    • +3

when datas not on you can use sms commands to turn things on or off. https://www.cerberusapp.com/help.php (second question shows all sms commands) "cerberus password enabledata" so replace password with your password and text from another phone best thing is cerberus hides/deletes and blocks the notification from these sms's so the crook doesn't know whats going on.

      • great, thanks!

      • use cerberus client apps

  • I've been mucking around it. pretty cool. im confused with the "Take Picture" command.
i took a picture, but where does it save/send to?
