It’s πŸ‘ a πŸ‘ different πŸ‘ sale πŸ‘ each πŸ‘ month πŸ‘ and πŸ‘ this πŸ‘ is πŸ‘ the πŸ‘ best πŸ‘ deal πŸ‘ they πŸ‘ offer πŸ‘ annually

        • +11

Well done mate, you got me on $9. Good pickup. I didn’t go hunting I just know anything under $300 is good value and worth bringing to this page as a deal and anyone negging it needs to be challenged, I get it negging the $399 + fee ones because that is not a good deal, but this is.

I agree their marketing techniques are questionable but this is a bargain. 24/7 365 access to a gym with pretty good equipment and machinery including showering facilities for 75c a day!!!

No matter how busy it is during peak periods or how much you don’t like their marketing practices it’s a good deal.

  • +20

Like in previous "deals", I'm negging because of deceptive marketing practices and questionable value for anyone who attends at anything other than completely dead hours.

There's no way to avoid the "admin fee" so the price in the title should just be $276.

    • +16

Plus in February they said "these prices will not be seen again" at $399 + $88

      Shadiest (profanity) business…

      • +3

        Technically correct.

Like the difference between "take my pulse" and "take my pulse".

        • +1

I don't get that pls explain

      • +4

Well given that it's now 276… They didn't lie

        • +1

Ahh so they were right after all!

    • Even if expired members? Shit

    • I wonder if someone challenged these gyms to provide an itemised account of what these aDmiN fees are for.

  • Can someone tell me if they have shower facilities?

    • They do in all the ones I’ve been too

      • +34

Thanks a lot! As an interstate truckie, I pay $3 to $5 per shower and usually shower 2 to 3 times a week with those shower pots. My math says that even if I use the minimum amount of $3 per shower and shower twice a week, it costs me $6 per week. So, over 48 weeks, that's $6 x 48 = $288. The deal I found is $276, so I'll save at least $12. It could be definitely more because $288 is calculated with minimum amounts. They have branches in Macgregor (QLD), Bendigo (VIC), and Ballarat (VIC), which fit perfectly with my route. This is an awesome deal for me. Thanks, OP!

        • Not all. Bendigo doesn't. All the Melbourne metro ones I've been to do though, except for Thomastown at the moment which is being renovated.

        • +1

          Now that's a bargain

        • if only everyone could access those showers. I jealous.

    • Some even have saunas and cold plunge poolsπŸ‘Œ

      • Which location has the cold plunge pools?

        • I havent been to them all but Oakleigh does.

      • If it’s working

  • -1

So it's 276 the cheapest ever?

    • -2

It's been lower if you don't factor in inflation, but it's still not really that cheap when you factor in the time you're going to waste waiting for equipment to be free.

      • -2

People's requirements are different, not everybody going for equipment.

        • +2

I'm using "equipment" here as a broad term including everything you actually attend a gym to use instead of just doing bodyweight exercises in your lounge room. When I checked out a couple of Derrimuts here in SA the queues for everything people actually use were horrendous. I'm sure if you work out at the times people are normally working or asleep it wouldn't be too bad, but forget the pre/post work times completely unless you want a 45 minute workout to take 2 hours.

            • +3

@Sun One: That's valid but surely you realise 99% of people looking at gym deals are interested in gym equipment?

              • +3

@kbw: But his need isn't valid? Lol, imagine being so arrogant you think you speak for the 99% of gym goers.

              • @kbw: I think probably at least 50% are just interested in the idea of getting fit, so they buy the membership intending to go but will never use it, or only use it once or twice. There are a couple of reasons this is a good deal for them, it costs less and it's not an ongoing direct debit. This is the cost of about 10 weeks at another gym. There's often a minimum contract period, a period during which they still believe they will actually go and a month or so notice to cancel, plus actually getting around to cancelling after admitting to themselves they will never go. This gives them 1 year to actually start going and will likely cost them a fair bit less.

There are also people who just want to do classes.

      • +2

Ive been there a few times.. never had to wait.. i just need a bench and a platform… They got plenty of these …

        • Same.

        • -1

May as well just bench at home then!

      • Almost never have to wait for equipment. You can always continue your work out in other ways and come back to it if needed.

        • +1

That means you waited for equipment. And sometimes that isn't always an option. Some people need specific equipment for specific needs or routines.
I frequently go to multiple Derrimut gyms in the metro Melbourne area and during peak times (4pm-8pm weeknights) it's always a bit of a gamble whether or not you'll get a bench or common weight machine without waiting. It might not be a long wait, but still a wait. That time adds up.

  • +21

Just a lil real time "objective" factual sharing for those contemplating signing up for the above.

I actually signed up for yearly membership over a month back during their supposedly FINAL $278 + $88 admin fee promo (a bit peeved that the price has dropped even lower TWICE since then) but nevertheless even the higher $366 price I paid I feel is still a damn good deal. It worked out to a measly $7.03 per week, what more the $5.31 per week promo you paying now. And you have full access to their gym network.

Moving on to their facilities, I live in the Western suburbs and have visited both their Braybrook & Caroline Springs centres during the day, after work & weekends. Objectively they have tons of machines and whilst granted there are constantly people, it's not like you waiting in a long queue to use the cardio or weights machine like some of the above comments alluded to. The machines are also in pretty decent condition at the outlets I've been too.

Also as a value add, there are also group classes such as Les Mills classes which you can attend. The clincher for me is the availability of daily pilates reformer classes at certain outlets such as Caroline Springs which you can join as part of your membership (but need to book online fast as they very popular) Just a comparison to reformer class packages at yoga studios elsewhere are pretty expensive.

Conclusion, I've been researching the various gyms earlier this year and this is the best value for money deal by a mile. So what I suggest is don't listen to anyone's comments above whether positive or negs as you can't please everyone. Just pop by the nearest Derrimut gym and decide for yourself before signing up.

Seriously for $276 all in for 12mths or $5.30 a week you can't go wrong. Do note that there is a catch eg. The TnCs state you CAN'T cancel, transfer or suspend the above membership at all as it's a special promo deal and unused portion is non refundable. Hope the above helps.

    • Glad to hear some locations offer better value than the ones I visited and I strongly agree with checking out any gym at the time you intend to go before signing up for a year, particularly for a business like this that won't offer refunds whatsoever.

    • yeah, totally agreed, I have been regular at Caroline Springs branch for 10 years and it's been constantly upgraded, the thing I like most is the variety of equipment as each machine has a certain angle & changing between machines really helps for consistant progress in your work routine.

    • Also some locations has the mirror studio room. A lot of the time when no classes it's empty. I enjoyed having my private little thing lol

  • +4

The issue is that the other gyms are significantly more expensive than this one.

  • +2

I assume the β€œadmin” fee is just circumvention of cooling off period?

  • +1

Anytime Fitness just uped their prices at my club. Was paying $18 a week, now $24 :(

We need cheaper options here in NSW.

    • +1

Definitely need cheaper options here in NSW, I am paying $27 up from $18 at Anytime fitness.

    • +1

Agree… Even though everyone here sh1ts on this gym… They are in fact a better gym than all other gyms here in nsw imho

    • Plan it fitness looks cheap in NSW.

      • Nothing in The Hills. I have seen the Auburn Planet Fitness and it looks decent and very reasonably priced too.

Not all anytime fitness gyms are good either. I drive a little extra to go to a branch I like. The closest one is not very well managed. I guess it depends on the frenchisee.

  • 24-hour access to ALL locations Australia-wide, including group fitness classes.

Good price. Just be aware that NOT ALL locations are 24/7 if that matters you.

  • +1

Ngl i paid $360odd and find it very reasonable for the price. Admitredly it's my secondary membership but have found most of the gyms in my city to be decently sized with decent enough equipment. Bigger range of equipment then ya small chain gyms like anytime. Pretty quite during the day or late at night 12pm onwards. Tbf though even during a public holiday day time wasn't actually that bad. Yes a lot of people but enough equipment to make things work.

  • -2

I signed up on the $199 + $88 special last week.
    Ripped off!!!!!

  • +10

I've been going to Derrimut gym for 10 years now. It's the best value out there in VIC because they are big gyms that other franchises can't compete with. But… It's run and maintained like s***. We need another super gym competitor. I'd rather pay an extra few hundred dollars to have a gym like Derrimut where they actually maintain, clean and stock their s***. Also higher price keeps out some undesirables. The very low price attracts some of the worst.

    • How has the price changed over the 10 years? Any special for a loyal member like you?

      • +4

This deal back in 2014-15 would have been $199 all up.
Can confirm there are no benefits for being a long term member. In fact it's worse as most of these deals are only targeted towards new and expired members.

    • Revo Fitness a WA company (based in looking at their dominant location) has just started entering the SA market, competitively priced and sized to Derrimut, hoping this challenges derrimuts standards a little

      • Revo have a sign on Pt Wakefield rd heading north showing 2 months free (can't recall location of gym though)
        .

  • If I read the T&Cs correctly, existing members renewing won't have to pay the $88 establishment fee? Though outside of T&C it calls establishment fee admin as well?

    • +1

You 100% do, ive been a member for over 5 years and have to keep paying admin fee. Pretty ridiculous, i may not renew after this year

      • +3

Then their ticketed price isn't false advertising, when new and existing members still paid the admin fee.

Now I still think it's a great price all-up and cheaper than the competition. There's no need to do this sly trick

        • +3

Yeah, thats what ticks me off. Its deceptive marketing. If you see their insta/fb ads they wont mention it unless you look into the fine print

  • -1

    Never been, by choice

  • Don't listen to comments about waiting for equipments. People will complain about things that don't exist. It's a pretty good deal. Usually big gym but have more than enough equipments and free weights. They also do a good job of maintaining the equipments and keeping the gym clean considering the number of people there.

  • +1

This is honestly a very good deal in my opinion and better than other gym offers, even applying student discounts. But looked at the link and it doesn't list QLD as an option so might want to change that.

  • Amazing deal

  • Too bad just one location in QLD.

  • -5

Give your local playground a crack..
Ie. Monkey bars = lat pulldown,
Run there = cardio etc etc.
Check in on FB if you have to …
    Saving of $188 + a further $88.

    • Yep….exactly the same

  • +1

Anyone knows what happens if you don't activate with 7 days? Could potentially buy and not activate until current membership expires!

    • so this kind of happened to me, i bought a yearly membership before i moved to my new place (5 mins from a derrimut) expecting to be able to activate it later, the 7 day guideline seems to not enforced, then even informed me that the membership started the day i bought it and also refused to refund me

i charged back with my credit card and never ended up going

  • Brisbane (MacGregor) is no longer 24/7.

    • Staffed or open time?

  • +1

The place is a zoo, full of bros that have no etiquette, manners and awareness. You'll see people with tripods, groups of morons training together crowding benches/equipment, talking out really loudly and the list goes on. Happens at many gyms yes, but more concentration of these types at Derrimut

    • While this is true… You can always just ignore them and if they're in your way, you can just kindly ask them to f off… Otherwise just get stronger and assert your alpha status LOL …

    • In oakleigh they have a dedicated room full of mirrors for posing..

  • Where is the QLD locations?

  • +14

I've been in the commercial gym industry for a long time and Derrimuts was one competitor I observed closely- From a strategic perspective and having used many of them.

Derrimuts gym's are popping up on a regular basis, their goal is to spread wide across Oz. They do this by creating huge gyms with very good facilities/equipment and then attracting the masses with cheap rates to raise funds for their next launch.

Based on this, the facilities are awesome in the first few months but then slowly go down hill due to the masses using the facilities. I'm not saying that they are poor afterwards, it just loses that "new car small" very quickly. The notion of "Charge cheap rates, get cheap members" holds true here. It does tend to attract those who do not value or appreciate the great facilities or respect others. There were times I had to go on a treasure hunt to find a matching dumbbell on the other side of the gym as whoever used it didn't put it back. I'm not saying thats ALL members, but there does seem to be a higher percentage in these gyms.

Derrimuts do tend to attract the bro/fitspo/instafit/bodybuilding crowd because that is their target and the type of equipment/culture they have. You can't critisise the gym for this as thats their paying target market. Yes, there will be the occasional douche in there just like every gym but at the end of the day if you go there and expect different, thats on you. Kinda like going to a nightclub and complaining the music is too loud.

As for roid-user comments. From my 20+ years on the bodybuilding scene, you're average semi-serious bodybuilder is going to be more respectful and friendly than you're average member. Yes, they may train hard and make a bit of noise, but thats what happens when you are training with intensity. If you need a help, advice or encouragement, they are going to be the best people to talk to. Once again, there will always be the typical douche that is the outlier. Forget the roid rage sendtiment- Anabolics, like money just turn you into more of whatever you already are.

All in all if you are an semi-experienced gym go-er and just need a place to go and train and don't really care about others, its hard to argue with the prices and facilities. Multiple locations helps as well if you're moving around a lot.

If you're new to the gym environment and may feel a little intimidated by others, it might not be the right choice for you but going with someone else might help.

All in all, if I moved somewhere and had to find a new gym, if there was a Derrimuts in the area, chances are i'd train there over any other chain franchise.

    • +2

"Anabolics, like money just turn you into more of whatever you already are." Amen brother, this is so true. The same can be said about recreational drugs. It just amplifies your personality.

Also, people tend to think that taking anabolics is the easy way to become ripped. No it's not. In fact, you have to train harder to make your money worth because those "supplements" are expensive as hell, which can run in thousands of $$$ per month. I'm not suggesting people to take it but they need to get the correct information before they decide whether they want to go down that path or stay natty. You need to have your eyes wide-open before you walk down this path.

      • +3

To add to the excellent points raised by both of you.

In my experience the roid users to watch out for are the ones who to the casual observer don't look like they're on gear. Simply because they're not that big.

It's the guys who don't know how to train, eat and recover but blast too much gear who are the most trouble.

I'd even go so far as to say that these days the majority of people on gear are like this.

  • Wife and I got stooged. Got in on the "May Madness" sale at $229 + admin 2 days before they dropped the price down to $188 for the same "May Madness" sale.

    • Still cheap regardless.

This will happen in all areas of life.

      • Honestly it's an investment into our health and well-being so doesn't really matter. Just a really good feeling when you get the best deal. Extra cash would have been nice for some pre-workout or apparel from Adidas with their upcoming outlet sale though.

    • Still a decent deal the Derrimut Gym is know to have deal after deal its a bitnof a poker game because you dont know when the last deal will be and your stuck with the full price membership

Personally hope this gets opened up to current members i got another year and a bit on my current membership

  • I live too far away now for this to be a deal for me personally to use :(. Time is worth more than money rip

  • Good value gym but the Admin fee is just rubbish it should only be for new members otherwise the cost is just $276 pa

Dont get me wrong 276 for a year is cheap but the way they advertise it is a but dodgy
