How to Pay off Your Credit Card Quickly?

I don't mean budgeting.

Basically I'm trying to buying plane tickets overseas and it's going to cost like 9k.

Currently my credit card available balance is below that. I'd like to pay with the credit card so I can get the travel insurance and the points.

I've tried bpaying but it seems this can take 2-3 days. Any other way to get the money into the credit card account?

    Pre-load your credit card.

bpay like you said, you can preload the amount that you need.
bpay is usually pretty quick though. your call as to whether to risk waiting

    • Took me almost two days for the credit to show from StGeorge Bank to Westpak Mastercard.

I just log in to my internet banking and transfer money to the credit card and its instant… what bank are you with?

    • Nab. Transferred at 10am this morning. Still not there yet

      • That's crazy! I'm with NAB too, might be worth a call

        • Are you transferring nab debit to credit card?

This is another bank going into my nab credit card

@witsa: Should have went bank to nab debit which should be instant via Osko then nab debit to nab credit

            • @star-ggg: You can bpay into a nab debit account?

          • @witsa: Yes I am, gotcha

      • Your option is to do it again at the branch. ie. pay cash into your credit card account. And then use the card to buy the flights. This will mean of course the first bpay will also go into your credit card account.

Or, you can just wait. (up to 3 days).

Go to a branch (assuming your credit card provider has one) and add the cash funds to your credit card. Should be instant.

B-Pay to my CC usually takes 24hrs. The 3 days is an "up to" for when things don't work

Correct just make sure initiate before cut off. Best is before 2pm

  • Money is often a really good way of paying off debt quickly.

  • Which credit card?

My Citibank credit card has a PayID that I can transfer money into it from my transaction account, and it would top up the credit card almost instantly. If via BPay it would be at least 1 business day.

    • Wow lucky, my citi CC doesn't have PayID.

    • Both my AmEx cards have PayID as well. I imagine this is a feature for all AmEx as I know a mate of mine also has it on his card which is different again to both of mine.

      • In my experience when using PayID to pay off your Amex balance it isn't reflected in your available credit until the next day which kind of defeats the purpose of having it as an option in my mind.

Your Available Credit is increased within a minute. It takes until the next day to reflect on your Current Balance so your funds are available for spending straight away.

          • @daanish: Oh OK, that makes more sense. I'm sure that wasn't the case when I had my Amex last year though. Maybe I'm just retarded lol.

      • They also have a payment feature on their end that deducts money from a bank account long before PayID and it's available for spending immediately.

  • Has it come through OP?

    • Yeah took about a day.

  • American Express take forever to process payments. I'm sure it's deliberate as Visa is almost instantaneous.

    • The money is available for spending immediately if you make the payment through their site or PayID as others have mentioned above.
