    Cheers

Needed something for my Samsung watch to receive calls and sms for fb marketplace

    • Will this esim compatible with samsung or apple watch? Thanks.

      • Samsung up to Watch 6, yes. Don't know about Apple.

  • +3

Do not use mobile number for OTP, use app based solutions (i.e., TOTP).

    • +6

Not all companies support app based yet.

    • +6

using something is better than nothing don’t discourage

      • +1

Let's assume @UncommonName meant "use TOTP based MFA if it's available over OTP via SMS" instead of discouraging to use it at all. SIM swap fraud is a real issue.

  • +8

Well Boost and Amaysim that regularly come with a profit lasts for 6 and 12 months after expiry respectively. They can be used for the same purpose can't they

    • +2

If I want to keep the number I won't let it expired, too risky to lose it.

      • +1

They usually give an advanced notice of disconnection. With my last Boost sim it was after like 7 or 8 months after expiry

        • It's different for every telco. Best to check.

    • I used a lot of those Boost Mobile profit-making plans! But haven't seen them for several months :(

    • Yes and when used with an iPhone you can make FREE audio and video calls (via FaceTime) and send SMS (via iMessage) when connected to any WiFi.

Of course you can also do this with Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp etc on either Android or iPhone but iMessage and Facetime calls are so simple with an iPhone.

So just as long as you can receive calls and SMS at no cost using any of these PAYG plans you can always call or message back over any WiFi connection

  • Good deal, but it's Lebara.

    • Yeah.

      But Vodafone…

      Nahhhh.

  • +2

Is it free to receive call or sms?

    • +1

      yes

      • +1

        Including international roaming?

        • +2

look at the CIS for the full details but the main thing people need which is incoming texts while roaming is free in these countries

Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Cyprus,
Czech Republic, Denmark, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar,
Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Isle of Man,

South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand,
          Tonga, Turkey, U.K., U.S.A., Vanuatu

  • Since they have eSIM, it would be better than Aldi $5 365 deal

    • +1

aldi $5 is no longer 365 days

      • I guess Aldi $5 PAYG Starter Kit still has 365 days expiry on PAYG Top Ups

Lebara to Lebara standard national calls: Free

I remember when a lot of people would be using same networks just for the free calls, sometimes on multiple phones.

    • +3

When I was a teenager, Telstra had a loophole where call diversion was free on prepaid. When I wanted to call a mate who was on another network, I would divert my phone to his number and then call myself.

It lasted quite a long time before they caught onto it lol.

      • +1

Yup my cousin claimed to do it for international calls too. Just divert to international number. This is back when you had to buy $10 scratch cards for like 300 minutes to certain countries.

  • Where are you seeing $5 recharge? Says minimum of $10 on linked page?
Is there a timeframe from when the sim needs to be activated?

    • CIS

      • What is cis?
Was unable to edit $5 was meant to be $7

        Edit:
I see the cos says minimum credit of $5 on activation. Perhaps pops up only when activating a new sim. Will try

  • +2

Pretty cool if not worried about network coverage, $7 each for all family members to just call each other for the whole year!

  • -1

Nevermind they are on Voda network

    • +4

Could be worse. Could be Optus

  • +2

Tried lebara once. One time too many

    • +5

      2 things for your homework:

      • Understand what a long running deal is
      • Understand 7 < 10
        • +5

No. Not at all. Just correcting mistakes and preventing incorrect information being spread.

        • pathetic

  • +6

Update: Use the $1 sim deal from Woolworths for a total cost of $6 for the first 365 days. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/844300

  • Do call credits rollover when you recharge?

    • Yes, according to some posts on Whirlpool. It's just credit BTW which can also be used to buy data add-ons.

      • I guess you should have posted this comment there

        Thats why wingepool exists lol

        • At least it doesn't have anonymous negging.

  • I would chose amaysim over Lebara if the below is correct.
I have been told ( not tested myself yet) that unused credit on amaysim can be used to purchased the travel pack from $20. I’m currently with Aldi (spare number) and accumulated over $40 credit but no use. I wish Aldi had the travel pack.

    • +1

It's twue. Confirmed by reports on Whirlpool. The good thing about the amaysim roaming add-ons is their long expiry and that they can be rolled over. The bad thing is that the roaming on Optus can be a bit iffy. You also don't have the option of PAYG roaming on amaysim. FWIW, you don't need a roaming add-on to receive SMS.

      • Thanks for the confirmation.
So if I move to amaysim on payg and pay $10 a year . If I have $20 credit , I can purchase the $20 travel pack which means I will have zero balance for this payg plan?

        • Yes.

    • +1

I can also confirm 100% works have it roaming in the Philippines from the $10 credit and the roaming pack lasts for one year with 2GB of data and 50 minutes of calls and 30sms

  • I currently use Aldi PAYG for a 4G camera on a remote property, I'll probably switch to Lebara as the data rate is 3c vs 6c at Aldi.

The Camera doesn't use enough data to make monthly or 365 day plans viable. I usually only spend $30-$50 per year on recharges with aldi.

I do have a couple of question on Lebara:
    1. Does anyone know if you are on a PAYG plan, can you accept data gifted from another Lebara customer?
    2. Is it possible to setup auto recharge on the PAYG plan? This is one of my bugbears with Aldi. Can't setup auto recharge on the PAYG plan, and they will not send low balance notification to an email or different mobile service, only an SMS to the camera which is useless to me.

    • Before switching, check if your remote property has any Vodafone signal as vodafone is much worse in rural areas compared to optus and telstra networks.

      • +1

Thanks, have used Vodafone there before, and Lebara map says it's fine. Not a big outlay if it doesn't work.

          1. All plans except Standard Plan/PAYG are eligible for Data Gifting

          No gifting

          2:

The CIS says there's optional automatic recharge

          • @shxhshzhz: Your searching skills are better than mine.
            Where did you find #1?
All I saw was "Gift your data with our 30 Day and Long Expiry plans, you can gift up to 2GB data per transaction up to 5 times per 30 days to another Lebara service. There’s a total limit of 10GB every 30 days. To gift your data, head to MyLebara. Alternatively you can send an SMS to 126172 and follow this format that includes the mobile number of the service you want to gift the data to: Gift XXMB mobile number. For example: Gift 1024MB 04XX123456."

I also read the CIS for the standard plan and found no mention of automatic recharge.

            Thanks for your help.

    • If it helps they refer to it as the standard plan and it is also the default plan.

      • It is not available on their app, but available on the website. Very weird

  • This is great. Got one yesterday as a secondary number eSIM.

  • when activating its asking what plan to sign up to?

    what did you do here?

    • +2

For those wondering - use the website to activate and you see a PAYG option
      Lebara app doesnt have this!

  • Currently on Lebara from a cheap starter plan.

Is there anyway to activate this plan for PAYG once my current month's plan expires?

    • Login to your account and click recharge and PAYG should be an option. Minimum recharge is $10

      • Thanks. Found it.

Minimum is $10 for PAYG. Not sure how the $5 top up works…

        • Existing customers it's $10 minimum. I think people activating a $2 SIM can choose $5.

  • Is SMS free too?

Lebara to Lebara standard national calls: Free

  • +1

    Works - thank you.
Parked my Optus Flex number that was about to expire.

I went directly to activation, then port in and then choose 'don't have a sim'.

Number was ported out to Lebara, and the esim was available in the Lebara app - no need to buy one.

    Thanks !

  • Hi guys, just a random question please. I am thinking to purchase a Long Expiry Prepaid Plans with Lebara but have been reading the reviews and its not that great reviews out there :( I have never used their service before. I am just looking for a cheap prepaid plan and they have a promotion at the moment for $149 (RRP $200) for 360 days. I am currently with Telstra prepaid plan (12 months expiry) but they are increased their plan to $320.
I just need a prepaid plan that unlimited call and text in AU and possibly oversea call to Thailand and that the reason I was looking to move from Telstra to Lebara but not too sure about their coverage. Any thoughts please.

    Location: Sydney NSW.

    Thanks in advance :)

    • Lebara uses the Vodafone network. Vodafone has the least coverage but often faster download speeds. Telstra retail and Boost the best coverage. Telstra wholesale MVNOs and Optus and their MVNOs roughly equal but somewhat less coverage. Decide on the network that you want including essential features e.g. Telstra allows VoWiFi from overseas and the amount of data. Unless you need unlimited calls to Thailand consider a VoIP MVNO for calls to Thailand rather than a mobile plan that includes them.

      • Thank you!

    • It largely depends on the areas you stay, work, and travel around. Mostly it should be fine, and Vodafone gives you unlimited international calling to certain countries. Better than the Big-3, if you can manage all the tech/support part yourself :-)

      • Thank you so much!

  • By the way, Optus and TPG/voda have signed a network sharing deal. So in theory you should have the combined coverage of both! Can Google the news article.
    Here's one.

By the way does anyone know if these mvnos also have WiFi calling?

    • So in theory you should have the combined coverage of both

Depends on the terms of the deal and only subject to the expected ACCC approval since the ACCC recommended it when it blocked the Telstra/TPG deal. Telstra's or anyone else's lawyers will be earning their money if they can convince the ACCC otherwise.

By the way does anyone know if these mvnos also have WiFi calling?

amaysim has it so presumably other Optus MVNOs too. Lebara says it supports it.

There really isn't any reason to regard it as a premium feature. The crappier network coverage the carrier has the more reason to have it.

Oh and just because VoLTE works with Vodafone or one of their MVNOs on a phone that is no guarantee it will work with Lebara.
