Too much stock, new iphone around the 4-6 month corner.

still expensive for me to afford one … current cash flow can only buy a under $300 phone

      • +14

sorry to hear that mate. hope you level up soon and increase your limit in the near future. all the best

      • +3

Am I missing something? Why have you received so many negs for saying you can’t afford a a luxury consumer good?

        • all the apple fanboys out there don't like people not buying iPhone regardless if people like/afford it.

          • +2

@Do I NeedThis: Exactly what I thought too, when most others are so happy with a Moto G84 for under $300, which nothing wrong with that, but then got negged when cash is tight can't afford a $1k+ iPhone? At the end of the day, it is just a phone …

            • +2

@kaikor: Yup. Half of them are probably in the exact same boat as ‘kaikor’ but instead of buying a sensibly priced phone they purchase an $1800 FruitPhone on credit, or take out a silly 36-month contract to pay it off. Engage in reckless spending like this and then they have the gall to whinge and moan about how they’ll never be able to save up enough for a house deposit.

            • @kaikor: True. Just be aware that Motorola is owned by Lenovo, a Chinese-owned company. If privacy is something you value highly (not to say that most phones are private, it's just that some are more or less private than others).

It is an odd comment to add. Do people go onto LG C3 TV posts and say I can't afford this

  • Anyone have any experience with "Renewed" phones from JB?

    • -4

Wouldn't touch them if the battery hasn't been replaced. iPhones batteries don't last more than a few years (at most).

Edit: Reason for the vote downs?

      • +1

I think you got downvoted because what you said isn't correct.
My 4 year old iPhone 11 Pro Max (BH 85%) still lasts me all day of moderate use.

        • Then you mustn’t use your phone much.

Mines down to 77% BH and about 2.5 years old. Same happened with my previous SE.

There’s every chance the previous owner of JB’s “Renewed” phone used their phone the same as me.

So how is what I said not correct? Sounds more like children don’t like what they’re reading so had tantrums.

          • @PainToad: SE and Pro Max are two vastly different devices. It’s possible your experiences are true as much as mine… so fair enough.

    • I've bought one 14 max pro with 100% battery health. It looks brand new. I would buy again if I need another one. Combined with gift card and 10% discount JB does a couple of times every year.

I permanently have a port protector in my iPhone 12 Mini's Lightning port and exclusively use MagSafe. It could have Micro USB C for all I care, never use it anyway.

Edit: Reason for the vote down?

      • +2

Apple really wished megsafe will be widely adopted, but things didn't work. Hope android phones will start putting magnets at back of their phones too

        • -1

qi2 (basically same as magsafe 15w) implementation in android delayed bigly. announced in jan 2023 but none of the early 24 phones getem.

        • Yeah, not for me. Phone heats up and takes forever to charge. I just don't see the point of it.

        • but things didn't work

I see people with MagSafe cases everywhere. I’d go as far to say it’s “not cool” if you don’t have a white ring in the back of your phone.

    • The new iPhone SE 4 with USB-C is expected within a year. I can wait.

      Usb c matters

Except Apple was forced to put it on new iPhones unwillingly. iPhone 15 is still crippled with USB 2.0. I have Apple 18W, 20W, 29W, 30W, 61W, 70W, 140W USB-C chargers. Also, Apple appears to release cheaper USB-C to USB-C cables with no e-marker chip inside.

    • Only on OzBargain and Reddit lol. No one cares IRL

Seems like crap prices for last gen model. May as well pay a bit extra and get a 15

    • +1

Exactly. With 16 a few months away, they should be offering more discounts for 14.

  • +3

gaahhh please bring back the mini iphones!

      With big battery

    • I'm still using my iphone 12 mini and although the battery sucks I can't justify that extra weight and size of these new phones!~

  • Dang got the 13 at xmas for $950 this seems like a better deal but was a nice upgrade from her second gen SE !

I was watching the news recently and I noticed that Apple is being sued in the US by the Justice Department and AG office for breaching antitrust laws, ie for engaging in anticompetitive behaviour.

So, the design of new models (or even the software of existing models) may be forced to be more compatible with other devices/apps.

Then again it's the third antitrust lawsuit brought by the Justice Department in the last few years, so who knows, maybe it will be business as usual.

    • It won't go anywhere, its based on really outdated understandings of the technology they're investigating.

This article on Ars goes through why it's pretty poor, and the comments in that thread explain how poorly thought-out the case is.

    • US by the Justice Department and AG office

Are they as tech illiterate as US Congress?
