Joke post? Who pays that much for them?

    • +1

The person who posted this deal paid significantly more for the same item. Obviously there are other screen protectors which are cheaper, these ones are a bit different and get recommended a few places online. I'm not trying to convince you it's worth it but some people might be interested in it.

    • How much do you pay for them? If cheaper, let us know

      • I do t go with that brand but I can't remember ever paying more than $20 for a screen protector

Whitestone isn't good value, sure they give you all the plastic crap to make sure the glass is on the right spot etc, but honestly, for the price you pay, you could have bought like 15 of these uv glass screen protectors from aliexpress.

I went all out and got the whitestone dome for my s8+, it was ok, but only getting 2 pieces of glass and enough glue for the two applications means you will probably have a bad time. installing UV TGSP isn't easy and even someone who has done this over 20 times, it never quite comes out perfectly at the start. Not to mention, even if your install looks perfect, within a few days, there's still the chance of random bubbles appearing even after the glue has cured.

That's why I just buy the cheaper ones at $5 a piece because if you screw it up, it's a lot easier to just rip it off, clean the glue and try again. It's also always good to have spare glue on hand and a LOT of alcohol wipes for cleaning.

    • I tried something similar with my partners pixel 6 which has an under screen fingerprint sensor and it basically made the sensor unusable. Had to resort to a film screen protector which helped remedy the issue somewhat.

I read online that these Whitestone screen protectors work really well with the fingerprint sensor compared to other glass ones so I though I would give this a go.

I had cheap UV TGSP for my Oneplus 7 pro for the good part of 3 years and the optical fingerprint scanner worked perfectly fine. I could see it being an issue on phones with ultrasonic finger print scanners (e.g. samsung ones), but I doubt they can fix something like that with using different materials in TGSP/LOCA glue.

I'm not sure what Whitestone use, but I'm pretty sure they use the same TGSP and LOCA glue for curing. At least it sure smells the same with the awfully potent, chemical smelling glue.

        • I'm not sure what Whitestone use, but I'm pretty sure they use the same TGSP and LOCA glue for curing.

According to the Whitestone Dome site, they use "LOCA Technology" officially patented by USA - Basically their own blend of LOCA.

          • @RichardL: Yeh fair enough, I'll be honest though, I couldn't tell a difference between the two. They both smell the same awful chemical smell and they cure the same. Saw absolutely no differences in usability/durability between the two.

            @RichardL:

According to the Whitestone Dome site, they use "LOCA Technology" officially patented by USA(whitestonedome.com) - Basically their own blend of LOCA.

Looking at their actual patent, it is more about the concept of a screen protector utilising LOCA rather than a specific blend of LOCA.

One of the other patents they cite is this UV cure adhesive from 2009.

LOCAs have been used in the phone LCD repair business for a long time. If the generic cheap ones that come with AliExpress ones don't work well, you can try some TP2500 instead.

I'm using a $5 uv glue screen protector on my S23 ultra for the last few weeks. No issue at all.

The below is an equivalent and more cost effective option, and comes with 3 protectors. Have been using it on my P7Pro for the last 3 months without any issue and fingerprint also works perfectly.

    3 Pack Ultra Glass Screen… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BGHYQCND?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_s…

    • The link you posted shows the total cost as being between $99 and $115.
Do you have a link that won't cost a ridiculous amount for shipping?

      • I'm using this, am very satisfied with it. I've bought plenty of AliExpress cheapies in the past and think that Amazon one is worth the small premium.

        • The reviews are dreadful..

          • @findmethebestdeal: As I mentioned in another comment, the reviews are from people who do not have experience with LOCA screen protectors. What they say is valid as LOCA screen protectors are more difficult to install, but it applies to all LOCA screen protectors not just that one. That's one big problem with reading online reviews - sometimes the problem is user error or inexperience, not the product.

FWIW I'd say that one is a little easier to install than the AliExpress cheapies as it comes with little brackets to make positioning easier. The curing light is much more substantial than the 3-LED aliexpress ones too. Just make sure you watch and follow the installation video.

$80 for a screen protector? Is this a joke?

    • Its a 2 pack, but yes its expensive. Comes down to how much you want to protect your $800-$1300 device.

  • Wow! I've stopped using screen protectors in the last few phones…and I can't see a need.

A phone case with a small lip that's all I've needed and I've dropped my phone regularly.

  • Every whitestone I have owned has chipped

  • Excuse my ignorance, but why should I use this over the normal screen protector?

  • Better off buying apple or samsung care or the one offered by the retailer (samsung was giving 1 year free with the current deals, jb usual have some promo for theirs) and then using a standard cheap $5 protector. Better than dealing with all the glue which is a nightmare if it gets into the speaker/mic holes.

  • I ditched screen protectors since the Pixel 5 days. A solid case is all you need. I've been using Spigen's rugged version, dropped my phone tons of times, and the screen's still good. No screen protectors since 5, 6, and now 7. Could just be luck, though.

    • I don't like scratches on the screen. Things like sand and diamond rings can scratch gorilla glass. If you're not in an environment where you encounter things like that, then you might not ever get scratches.

I tried going without a screen protector on one of my phones and of course within a week I had a very obvious scratch on the front.

  • Is the phone included in the price?
