Been a long time lurker in OzBargain, thought its about time I post something here to help someone out.

I was looking for an Apple Watch Series 8 for a while and I just stumbled on this deal where Amazon dropped their Apple Watch Series 8 - 45mm to $629.

I was able to price beat it via Officeworks which dropped it down to $597.55 which may be the lowest price for the Apple Watch Series 8 - 45mm.

While many others would recommend getting the Series 7 equivalent from the Apple Refurb Store, it never seems to be ever back in stock.

Not a huge deal but a deal is still a deal.

      Have you been busy?

    • so you knew eh…

      • -2

ha.. given how many times I go to post on this site and are beaten by hours I just give up :)

        • +8

you've posted once in the past 7 years

        • +3

given how many times I go to post on this site and are beaten by hours I just give up

You shouldn’t lose hope though, you were once the fastest sperm so you have a potential :P

    • i did do the same as OP yesterday prolly about a few hours before, but just didn't think its that much a deal. I was in a hurry to buy since it is a gift that i wanted to take out of country in a few days so i could claim gst on it.

  • i just saw at david jones that apple watches are $50 off from rrp: https://www.davidjones.com/product/apple-watch-series-8-gps-…

    • +3

      41mm not 46mm

  • +3

Hope Apple actually does something exciting with watch 9.

    • +10

All I want is a longer battery life which doesn't cost double like the Ultra does before I get one

      • and fast charging, though I am on the first gen SE so maybe the current fast charging speed is good for me. but yeah. my only complaint is the need to charge it once a day at minimum.

        • +1

Exactly, I'm not keen on the idea of having to charge my watch 2-3x more often than my phone lol

        • +1

I am pretty happy with my 7 charging, 20 min top up before work and 20 min charge while I eat dinner gets me through the day.
Could prob forgo the end of day one tbh and then just do a longer charge in morning .

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: This comment chain about charging watches reads like satire.

I am pretty happy with my 7 charging, 20 min top up before work and 20 min charge while I eat dinner gets me through the day.

            This is a fabulous crescendo.

            • @ssfps: Yes, very witty and intelligent observation, I mean, it's just a watch right? I'm sure you made the same cutting remarks about dumb phone battery life compared to smart phones too.

              • -1

@Randolph Duke: The fact you defend charging a watch twice a day because it lets you take your eyes off the road to read an sms or email notification while driving instead of having it read to you, makes me even more amused.

        • +4

Gen 8 charges from 20% to 80% in like 20 mins. I do that when I have a shower and get ready. Once a day.

      • I have this exact model, it last me 2 days without charging.
I wear it for about 10 hours a day with 1.5 hours being during exercise.

    • +2

They’re working on a blood glucose sensor. Not sure when it will land

      • Will you rely on it though?

        • +1

You are not meant to blindly rely on health data from a smart watch, it is just a snapshot to give you a decent idea where you are at. If accuracy is a must and it is crucial to health, an actual medical professional with validated and accurate devices will get you what you need

      • +1

        3-5 years away

      • The Watch isn't due for an update until six months from now so at least that long. Otherwise 18 months from now or 30 months from now.

    • +3

Cant wait for the partnership with Theranos

      • That ship may have sailed ;)

        • +1

One drop of blood not enough for Apple

    • Apple watch series X

      • im happy with my 7 and would seriously consider either a nicer finish next gen apple watch, or whatever will replace the ultra.

        • As in they'll skip series 9 like the iphone naming convention and head straight to X. Maybe.

    • That is still seven months away!

  • Does anyone know if Harvey Norman can price match/beat this Amazon price? If yes then can use the $50 Amex cashback offer to reduce the price further

    • They will come up with excuses, that's the best they do for you.

    • +2

Yes, they do. I got them to price match AirPods Pro 2 from Amazon.

    • +1

They don't, however they did offer me a $20 discount, then I used two Amex cards with HN offer to buy 2 x $300 gift cards. $679-20-50-50 = $559

      HN Rep:
"Unfortunately we are unable to price match this item as we deem competitors price significantly below market value and recommended retail price as per our exclusions, apologies for any inconveniences."

      • +3

Haha, so they price match, but only if it's a price they like.
They should just call it a haggling policy.

      • HAHAHA had that same excuse for a $3 discount

    • +1

Thanks all for your inputs. Got HN Live chat to price match Amazon quite easily.

Is Apple the only brand offers heart rate monitoring through app with smartwatch atm?

    • No? Majority of other smart watches out there have heart-rate monitoring.

  • +3

    want a sale on ultra

    • My friend got one, they're actually f'ing gorg.

  • +1

yeah I looked at these before I got a apple watch ultra simple put the apple watch ultra has insane battery life. and a massive screen. Yes its more expensive but its a highquality watch as well made of titanium and also alot more features that all the other apple watches.

    • +1

It doesn’t have insane battery life. Just better than bad. It’s also far more expensive and it’s huge. If you take the watch off for 20mins a day then that’s all you need to charge it back up.

      • -1

3 days straight of power before I need to charge it. Sooo not sure what you mean but I havent' had any other apple watch that could last more than 1 days

        • -1

It lasts 2 days for me when I don’t go for a run. So you get an extra day? You track sleep and heart rate?

          • -2

@onlinepred: I never track sleep it wastes battery. I turn off functions I don't need.

            • +2

@kungfuman: Well there you go, the regular lasts me almost 2 full days with sleep tracking and heart rate tracking. I think if I turned that off I would get better battery life than that. So for nearly double the price, you are getting MAX 1/3 better battery life, and that's only because you aren't using all the features right? So not really insane battery life at all. The only reason you would get the max is potentially for durability/style preferences/active features - so for you, clearly just durability and slightly better battery life? That's a lot to pay for that!!

              • -2

@onlinepred: I couldn' get the normal apple watch to go more than a day and half with every thing turned off so I dont know how you achived this but the ultra was very surpricing.

                • -1

@kungfuman: Series 8 45mm? That's surprising given your limited use of features, are you using it to track exercise daily etc? I was getting 4 days out of my old Samsung Galaxy active 2 watch, so apply in general are way behind in the watch battery life.

            • @kungfuman: Lol you don’t use sleep tracking coz it wastes battery but claim it has an insane battery… if you have to turn features off and not use sleep tracking to get 3 days it does not have an insane battery lol

              • -1

@quikstix: there is no apple watch that has any where near the battery life of a apple watch ultra. So for an apple watch its insane.

But if we are talking actually smart watchs as a whole then nothing can match a pebble that was 30 DAYS of battery life or more.

    • Same. My 24/7 buddy.

    • Totally agree. The Apple Watch Ultra is not much more expensive than the stainless steel regular Apple Watch plus there is no titanium option for Apple Watch 8. To me, the Ultra is quite reasonably priced given what Apple usually charges for their higher end product options.

  • +1

If they can release a watch that has the features of the ultra but packs it into the style of the regular watch for a cheaper price, I would buy in an instant

    • +2

The Ultra doesn‘t look bad but rather look rugged. I first thought it wasn’t for me but after I got one, I find it looks nice and don‘t regret my decision. It‘s not your normal dress style watch but neither is the regular Apple Watch.

    • Agree. The Ultra is so absolutely ridiculously huge. It’s literally wider than my wrist.

    • What price would be a price you'd buy the Ultra for?

  • +1

    Good price

  • Bought the AW7 for $454 last December which I think is still a better deal than this AW8 for most people.

    • +1

Not always a better deal, but at $454 it would be a no brainer for the diff in price even at $597.

  • Has anyone used the officeworks trade in program? Is it any good? Thinking of trading in my watch/iPhone to upgrade devices

    • You'll be disappointed in the 25c they give you for the apple watch

    • trade in systems are for people that want convenience, not value.

      • Apple gave me $650 off my new iphone when I traded in my 3 year old iphone 12 pro max which is much more than what I would have sold it for on marketplace.

        • +1

which is much more than what I would have sold it for on marketplace.

Why do you say that? Looks to me like they’re selling for a fair bit more than $650 on eBay and scumtree.

  • +1

after almost 4.5 years now, I upgraded my watch4 to 7, this might be my favorite apple product out oh all the things I have, app2 being the close second.

  • Don't buy mid-cycle. AW 12 only 3.5 years away. In the meantime, carry a sundial.

  • $629 at JB, use TCN Him giftcards, currently 10% off at woolworths.

  • -1

Thanks OP, picked one up today. Had Officeworks price match and paid $595.65

    • really?
I went to OW this morning. the price is already $627 as amazon. so they refused price beat as price is already matched!

      • +1

Yeah I went around 4.30PM or so, prices were $627 at both stores are they were happy to beat it.
Not sure why I'm being down voted ?

    • Picked up $600 in TCN Him gifts cards for $540 at woolworths, plus $29, making it a total of $569 at JB yesterday.

  • nice, got this yesterday from OW around noon just to see Amazon dropped their price by further $2 today :P
Used previously had 15% ultimate gift cards for further discounts, and going overseas in a few days to claim travel gst :)

    • How many ultimate gift cards did you use at OW?
Just wondering the max number of ultimate gift cards you can use at OW.

      • +1

They says unlimited. They told me last time they have one guys redeem ultimate gift card and had the invoice receipt about 20 Meters long..

  • Does anyone know when will this promo expire?

  • Harvey Norman have the same deal. Order one 45mm watch by using 2 Amex card( American express have 300-50 cash back). So made it $529 finally.

  • How long does an Apple watch last ? I suppose the battery dies first. Is it like an iPhone, supposedly 4 to 5 years with updates and good battery life?

    • +1

I recently decided to find my Apple Watch Series 1 and see if still works, been using it for weeks and it’s been great, battery lasts me all day. Was kinda hoping it didn’t work to justify buying new one but it’s still going well…..

  • expired back to $677 now
