[XB1, SUBS] Microsoft Games to be Added Day 1 to Xbox Game Pass: Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, Halo, Forza, etc

1320

For $10.95/month, you'll be able to play the latest MS blockbuster games from Release Day… now that sounds like a deal to me!

Moving forward, we plan to release all new Xbox One exclusive games from Microsoft Studios into Xbox Game Pass on the same date as their global release. This means that when Sea of Thieves launches on March 20, it will be included in Xbox Game Pass to all members.

This plan to bring new games timed with their global release into Xbox Game Pass not only includes announced titles like Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, and Crackdown 3 but future unannounced games from Microsoft Studios including new iterations of our biggest Xbox One exclusive franchises such as Halo, Forza and Gears of War, on the same day they launch.

Damn thats a good incentive to get a year pass! Same cost as just one of those games,

    • +2

And the DLC is discounted for Game Pass members, too.

      https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/games/xbox-game-pass

      From the FAQs;

"Members can purchase DLC at 10% off the retail price (or the best available discounted price) for Xbox One games while the game is within the Xbox Game Pass catalogue."

      I like that.

    • Where can you buy a year pass? I can only see the month by month option.

  • +3

Wow awesome thing I managed to do the mastercard trials haha got 3 years stacked!

    • +8

Yeah same here dude, but I actually kinda feel like I'm cheating a big corporation that have just made a very consumer friendly move.

    • How and is it too late?

    • +1

I got three years stacked by using Microsoft Rewards. Good till July 2020.

      • How did you get that many points?

        • The daily searches plus buying Xbox games give you heaps of points. One of my subs came from my wife's account. When you redeem your points, you get sent a code that can be applied to someone elses account.

  • Mastercard trials?

    • +2

‘Twas a loop hole that has already been fixed

  • Whats the catch? Do you get the full game for as long as you pay the sub?

    • The catch is you lose the full game once you sub is over. You keep your save files though.

    • Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I reckon the catch (apart from requiring sub) will be it would be base games only and you'll need to pay for DLC where required.

      • +2

That’s not really a catch, since if you outright bought the base game you’d still need to purchase DLC that wasn’t free (if you want the DLC that is).

        • But you still/also need Gold subscription, right?

        • +1

          And DLC is 10% off for Game Pass members;

"Members can purchase DLC at 10% off the retail price (or the best available discounted price) for Xbox One games while the game is within the Xbox Game Pass catalogue."

          https://www.xbox.com/en-AU/games/xbox-game-pass

          Win win.

  • So if I get GamePass to access Sea of Thieves on my Xbox One, will it still be cross compatible letting me play it on my PC as well?

    • +1
      • Yep but you can't buy it if you only have a PC. :(

        • really?

        • You know what, I'm not sure, I'd like to see if others have gotten it to work.

        • +2

That's not the case. I signed up for Game Pass and installed the game solely from my PC.

        • @qyst:

I have 2 xboxes but did use my PC to buy game pass. It's on the xbox website.

  • Wow, this starts to make the game pass attractive.

    • +2

      And make xbox attractive too.
Ps4 don't even have ea access. Only now.

  • +1

Bit awkward for us long term Live members, we have all/most of the games already. Likewise for EA Access. Awesome for new people though, which this is clearly targeted to even up the sakes race.

    • Yeah but you wont be getting the new games for a while which is the point. If you were going to buy Crackdown or Halo or Forza on day 1 then this is a good deal.

      • +1

It'd be more appealing if MS had a larger first party exclusive list coming. Hopefully E3 will allow them to catch up with their already great hardware.

  • This is great, I have about 3 years worth stacked.

  • I might play Sea Of Thieves but the only other game I’d play would be Halo. Good for those who like a variety of games though.

  • +2

I've noticed the XBOX Games With Gold had a great run last year
the past 6 months (since Game Pass has been around) the games have been sub-par

that said this is a great deal

  • Yep. Definately gonna get a sub to this.

  • Awesome news.

  • This is huge. Tried the 1month for $1 and although don't game too much anymore I found it to have enough value.

I would definitely have gotten Crackdown 3 so thats about 7 months of game pass value there. Hopefully they continue to release at least 2 must have exclusives a year :P

I do find it a shame that they don't do 12 month cards at a discount or some form of all access bundle with xbox live/EA access

  • +1

Guess I'll sub just before those new games come out - nothing in there now that I want to play.

    • +2

Same. Any game I wanted to play (and some I didn't) I already own. Takes a lot of the value out of it.

  • -2

What games? The 3 games MS has released since XB1 launch… :(.

I pay for this sub because I like to play random games sometimes, but this isn't really exciting due to lack of MS exclusive games.

  • +1

    Wow. Definitely a great deal.
Makes it almost a no brainer to subscribe if you're into the main xbox franchise. Which I am - forza/ Halo / Gears.
Still, loving the Netflix style model.. :) $10.95pm .. cheeap..

The only niggly thing for me.. and looking on the ms page. How long would the game stay/leave the catalogue.

(Xbox Game Pass members enjoy unlimited access to over 100 great games within Xbox Game Pass catalogue, until either the subscription is cancelled/expires, or a game leaves the Game Pass catalogue. )

    • +2

i would say because their microsoft games they won't leave the gamepass 3rd party company can leave

  • Where can I find the full game list? or anyone could let me know what games they have? only interested in the AAA titles.

  • +3

On a different note, browsing the Back to school sale Ms has on their page.
some standouts .. older ..but still great games.

    Tomb Raider - $5.99
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/store/p/Tomb-Raider-Definiti…

    and valiant hearts for $9.98
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/store/p/Valiant-Hearts-The-G…

    • ^Yep. I grabbed Deus Ex Mankind Evolved for $8.

Just Cause 3 is $8,too. Or $13 with all the awesome DLC.

  • This seems pretty revolutionary, but then I remembered Xbox releases their own games like 1 every few years.

  • +1

EDIT: People should note - only one of these have a release date - Sea of thieves in March.
The other 2 dont have dates.

Ill sign up the second they add forza Horizon 3 to the list.

Actually ill prob sign up the for sea of theives and to see what the hype about crackdown is about but yeh, please add forza H 3!

    • +1

Forza Horizon 3 will be added to Game Pass because so far, every single game I own for XB1, other than Forza H 3, is available on Game Pass. Sigh… So Forza H 3 will be there, it's just a matter of time. Well, at least my Forza H 3 is play anywhere edition (so it is for PC as well).

  • +2

The current game pass is only worthwhile for people who recently bought xbox one/S/X. The current list of Xbox One games are dated. You do get Halo 5, Gears of war 4, Sunset Overdrive, but no Forza (not yet). Halo 5 and Gears 4 were heavily discounted before (maybe still). Games on the game pass list also tend to be heavily discounted.

The Xbox 360 games, I don't enjoy most of them included in Game Pass (sorry, after seeing Xbox One games with improved graphics, it is hard to go back to XB360 games). Microsoft can say they "plan" to bring latest exclusive titles to Game Pass when the new exclusive titles launch, but so far, they haven't done that.

So, for the time being, if you haven't played Gears 4, Halo 5, then Game Pass is fine. However, will both of them last you months? The Mastercard card deal was great - cannot believe I missed that. XB1X comes with a 30 days trial. There was also the $1 for Game Pass for a month last month. It is a bit disappointing for me so far (but I own Gear 4, Halo 5, and a number of XB1 games included in Game Pass). Tried it for a month and I won't be renewing. When Microsoft really put latest exclusives in Game Pass, I will reconsider.

The current issue with Game Pass is that the quantity might be there, the quality is lacking (well, only a handful of decent/good XB1 titles in there and all of them are quite dated).

  • I am already looking forward to Halo Wars 2 & WWE 2K17, both coming to Game Pass on Feb 1st.

  • Do you need to have Gold to get Game Pass?

Also you can only buy a month at a time meaning it’s not cheaper to buy a years worth compared to 2-3 Months?

    • Gold and game pass are two different products. I actually suggest you take the 14 day free trial first. Do it when you have some time to really play some games.

Game pass, unlike Gold, doesn't really benefit from continuous membership (you can buy those games at a discounted price, but I wouldn't bother). Unlike Gold, Microsoft decides the games which are "free" in Game pass currently. Microsoft can swap games in and out of Game Pass. For example, Halo Wars 2 & WWE 2K17 are coming, but MGS V: Phantom Pain and another game (cannot remember the name) are being removed. So even if you already have active game pass, after Feb 1, you can no longer play MGS V: PP unless you actually own the game. Gold and PS Plus are different. When you have an active membership, Gold and PS Plus allow you to play previous 'free' for Gold / PS Plus games you collected.

Game pass is more useful when you have time to play games. You don't actually collect games with Game Pass.

  • I'm assuming a Gold sub is required to play Sea of Thieves as it's a MP only game right?

    • +1

Can I play multiplayer games within the Xbox Game Pass catalogue?

Members will need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to access multiplayer features and functionality in Xbox Game Pass games (Gold membership sold separately).

    • Yeah you need Xbox Live Gold as the entire game is online only. I just grabbed a 3 month code for $17 on here and Microsoft threw in a month for free for turning on auto-renew (which I'll turn off).

    • Technically, based on earlier indications, the one in Game Pass should be the Play Anywhere edition. That means you can play it on Windows 10 as well if you have an active Game Pass subscription. You will need to manually search of it in the Microsoft App Store I reckon.

I "think" the PC version doesn't need XB Live Gold subscription to play. Also, it seems that you can also try the game for 14 days.

  • -5

Crack down 3 isn't going to be released lol

  • All these games but my heart yearns only for Rocket League

    • Then get it? Its the same price as a 1 month game pass subscription lol

      • What I meant was I have it and have no need for anything else

  • Won't these new titles be play anywhere too?

    • +1

Sea of Thieves in Game Pass, based on earlier comments on Web sites, should be Play Anywhere edition. That means that if you have Windows 10, you can also play it for free while it is in the Game Pass library.

      • Oh boy I hope you're right.

        • It was previously hinted by Microsoft, and the following article indicates that's the case for this game:
          https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/03/20/play-sea-of-thie…

I haven't tried Sea of Thieves yet, but I did try Gears of War 4 on Windows 10 (I own physical version (XBox version only), and GamePass). Through GamePass, AppStore lets me install it on my Windows 10 PC as well).

Assuming you don't need XB Live Gold to play Windows 10 version, you could play it for free on PC while your GamePass subscription is active).

        • @netsurfer:

          It works :)

Redeemed a spare 1 month Xbox Pass code and then it asked me to turn Autorenew on for an extra free month. 2 free months and Sea of Thieves whoo!

  • If only we had decent internet in Australia
