    $154!

    Woah

Anyways someone please convince me not to get it, don't think I can resist it this time.

    • +13

      Get it ;)

    • +9

Worth to note that there are plenty of coupons up for grabs too. You could trim an extra $2 off these prices :)

      • Op update the listing with correct price for the note 3 2gb and 3gb models

    • You have 2 thumbs for a reason.

    • +7

My redmi 3 from aliexpress came with an unofficial miui ROM that started giving me pop up ads every minute. Extremely annoying.

The ROM also did not work with notifications unless the program was already running, and Facebook messenger badges did not show. Would not recommend unless you enjoy tinkering with software. Check the miui version it comes with.

However, I put a custom android ROM on it and it's now a 10/10 phone for price.

      • which seller was it? Had a good experience with Dreami myself

      • Sounds like a dodgy ROM. What seller was it? miui in my years of experience has never had issues lile this with official, stable ROMs.

        • -2

xiaomi rom chesee version is flull of ad, international rom is all good

      • Just chiming in to support this - I have bought 2 Redmi Note 3's in the last 6 months from Chinese sellers via AliExpress. One was absolutely fine, the other came with a modified ROM with ads etc.

Normally this would be easy to fix via just flashing the ROM to official but the seller had clearly spent a lot of time making this as difficult as possible - long story short took several days of work to achieve via extremely complicated workarounds (note: I am a dev).

Not commenting specifically on this deal - and the phone itself is excellent for the price - but yeah beware who exactly you buy from, and check where possible it's the official MIUI rom installed, not some custom bollocks..

        • Were both from the same seller? Who did you purchased from?

        • @Sheppy:

The modified ROM was from Hong Kong Goldway - avoid.

The first, proper one was from Xiaomi Dreami Store and was no problem. But this was 6+ months ago now.

    • What time in what Timezone does the sale start?

      • WA time i assume

  • The 3i is definitely a must have:

"Chip-level security encrypts and stores your fingerprint profiles securely
so no one can access them-not even you.".
Couple this with the Signetics 25000 Series 9C46XN and Brandis can go whistle…

      • +2

        Morologus es!

  • +1

Do these sales actually live up to expectations? (As in, it's not a Catch of the Day 'we have 2 of every item!' affair?) I've spotted some awesome sale prices on a couple of things I want that I'm hoping won't disappear by the 11th.

    • +4

I first got in on this sale last year and have been counting down for it to come around again. All the stores released there prices a few hours ago, so now is the perfect time to spot the bargains. Stock is usually great too, I personally got a lot of Christmas presents last year and all arrived well before Christmas.

      • +1

Ah, that's awesome then! Time to do a bit more hunting

      • What time in what Timezone does the sale start?

    • Technically some prices are cheaper in China, from taobao or tmall, but + shipping to Australia kills those prices. And Chinese sites have bigger coupons

For example the mi pad 2 is 999 rmb

  • +4

Only been a few month since I scored Note 3 Prime at $230 holy

  • it's 2g 16gb for xiaomi $154 not 3g/32gb

    • +1

Same price for all on 1111

        • @stuhtb: I'm with brongz on this one.
$117 must be for the cheapest version which is 2/16GB. 3/32GB is much more expensive.

        • @stuhtb:
The sale price doesn't change because it's basically a static ad, it should read "From $116.99"
There is no way 3/32 and 2/16 versions will be priced the same.

Open any other product with different purchase options and you'll see the same picture. 1111 sale price is shown for the cheapest option.

We finally know what band 28 is worth, and it's $44.

    • +2

I don't even know what that is o_O Is it worth paying the extra $44 for it?

      • +4

Considering its around a 30% price hike, no way. Some people that live out of town might notice a difference, but realistically it's not worth paying that much for one extra band. Some people would disagree.

        • +2

Maybe a bit outdated, but overall:
Australia is currently using these LTE bands
2100Mhz (B1) – Telstra (a handful of sites), Optus (Tasmania), Vodafone
          1800Mhz (B3) – Telstra, Optus, Vodafone
          850Mhz (B5) – Vodafone
          2600Mhz (B7) – Telstra, Optus
900Mhz (B8) – Telstra (a handful of sites, utilises spectrum previously used by 2G)
          700Mhz (B28) – Telstra, Optus
          2300Mhz (B40) – Optus (Vivid wireless spectrum)

I'm using Redmi Note 4g (B1 + B3) - no issues in metro area with Optus.

    • Now the real question is…. Is band 28 worth $44?

  • +1

As long as they can fulfill all the orders and send them out within a reasonable timeframe?

    • +7

Is that a statement or a question?

      • Probably both lol

      • Almost rhetorical.

  • +1

    thats pretty cheap!

  • +7

    I want Mi MIX!!!!

  • How are the cameras on Xiaomi phones, both video and photo? Are they comparable with S7, Iphone, or even Pixel?

    • +17

      Ha ha.good joke mate.

      • lol, i guess no contest then…
seriously tho, it looks like the only reason why Mi5 is almost $200 more than Redmi Note 3 is because of the 4K camera.

        • +1

Honestly, not even close in quality. I broke my Note 3 a while back and decided to go back to an iPhone, in a large part because I couldn't cop the camera on my Note 3.

    • +1

I bought a Redmi Note 3 Pro to replace an LG-G4. The Redmi camera is terrible in comparison - anything not completely still is blurry. Low-light quality is also poor. If you mostly take still photos outside in daylight then it is acceptable, but don't try to take photos of your kids who won't keep still or friends in the pub at night.

what about xiaomi redmi note 4 pro. is the price difference worth going with note 4?

    • +2

      3 is better

      • Not saying you are wrong but can you elaborate on why?

        • +1

The SD650 SOC in the Redmi Note 3 is better than the Mediatek Helio X20 in the Redmi Note 4, 16mp camera in the RN3 vs 13mp in RN4 (both average cameras though), Band 28 and international rom on RN3, and also, the RN3 is cheaper.

Only pros of the RN4 are "2.5D" screen, extra 50mah battery (4050 vs 4100), and option of 64gb internal storage vs 32gb on the RN3.

        • @goose25:

Is there much in it between the 650 and the x20?

On the camera are you going just by the mp count or something else? I havent seen any proper comparisons but one review i read said the 13mp sensor on the RN4 was better than the 16mp RN3. Either would be better than my old y550 though.

Wasnt going to worry about band 28 on either option. My wife has a RN3 with no b28 and it has been fine.

          edit:
3d performance between the 2 looks to be a clear win for the RN3 (it does have and extra gb ram in this comparison though but that probably shouldn't matter)
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ4rQ_VTrck

        • @Duff5000:

As you've seen, the SD650 is the superior chip.

The cameras both stink from what I've read. I believe you're right in that the RN4 has a slightly better sensor, and just a lower MP count. I wouldn't personally let the slightly better camera sway me, as it isn't much better than the RN3's.

Yeah, I've never personally had a problem with non-band 28 phones before either, but figured I'd just get the RN3 to make sure I can't blame the phone for poor reception.

  • +1

when does it start? midnight? what is the server time zone?

no deal on note4s? at 154 the note 3 prime is too good to pass though

  • -1

ONLY Mi5 have NFC. All other is just pain when you want to do checking Opal Card or google android pay.
Also, 32GB seems good and responsive for a while, then slow down a lot. ONLY get Mi5 64GB.

Watch out for Mi Pad 2 as there is no SD card slot and NO HDMI OUT. Just google and lots of people regret.

    • +1

This deal isn't the Mi Pad 2. It's the original Mi Pad that has an SD card slot..

  • Now, do I get the RN3 regular version and save myself $50 sweet buckaroos, or do I get the b28 version and save $150, by not throwing my phone full force against a brick wall in a months time following the 900th time I hear "..what?" during a conversation
    hmm…

    • +10

B28 is a 4G band, and 4G is currently only used for data. 3G is what is used for voice calls, and it's the same 3G bands for both international and non-international versions. So no, for voice you should not notice the difference.

Where you may notice the difference is the speed and coverage of 4G data. Anecdotally though on previous deals, people have reported reasonable data speeds on the non-international (Kenzo) version, and not much difference with the international (Kate) version. Plus more hassles with buying accessories (slightly different sizes) + getting custom ROMs (Kenzo is far more widespread). Plus the $44 extra purchase cost. Personally, I think given all that, the cheaper non-international version is the better option in this deal.

Footnote on 4G being not used for calls: I am disregarding VoLTE for voice calls, which is a technology to use 4G data to make voice calls, as it is currently being trialled on a very few supported handsets (S6 and S7), on only some networks (mainly Telstra), so it's probably a few years away from widespread use, and besides the data speed requirements are probably very low.

  • Are all Xiaomi phones with a locked bootloader? If so, can anyone comment on unlocking them without asking permission from Xiaomi?

    Thanks.

    • Depending on the phone you can unlock by flashing a custom boot.img. Check over at XDA prior depending on the phone. I looked into doing this for the RN3 but ended up doing it officially (which included a weeks wait for approval).

      • Is the Mi4c locked?

        • Yes. You can unlock it officially using the Xiaomi unlock tool, or if you're capable via custom unlock flashing guides (see XDA).

    • +61

If you're looking to purchase one of the Xiaomi phones listed, I've made some short notes about each of the phone. It mainly comes down to what screen size you want, camera quality and if you'd like extra storage.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime

      Size: 5.5" screen
      Pros

      • Has microSD slot (so extra storage ontop of the 32GB)
      • Has Snapdragon 650 processor (very similar in performance to Snapdragon 808 and 810 which were last years flagship processors, think Sony Xperia Z5 or Nexus 5X/6P or LG G4)

      Cons

      • No Band 28
      • Mediocre camera opposed to other flagship phones

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime (Band 28)

      Size: 5.5" screen
      Pros

      • Supports microSD card also
      • Has Band 28 for 4G (not very important if you are in metro areas)

      Cons

      • More expensive by $44
      • Slightly larger than normal Pro Prime by 2mm, so it's harder to find accessories for this version
      • Same camera as above

      Xiaomi Mi5

      Size: 5.2" screen
      Pros

      • Better processor, Snapdragon 820 (this is what the current flagship phones are using, think Galaxy S7 and OnePlus 3)
      • Better camera than Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime

      Cons

      • More expensive
      • No microSD slot, so you are stuck with current phone storage (32GB or 64GB)

      Xiaomi Redmi 3S

      Size: 5" screen
      Pros

      • Has microSD slot

      Cons

      • Weaker processor compared to the Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime and Mi5

      Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Pro
      Size: 5.5" screen

      • I do not recommend this phone at this price, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime is much better value
      • To me the SD650 seems a fair bit quicker than my 4c with the 808, could just be the rom i'm on though.

      • Amazing, this is exactly what I needed with all these xiaomi deals. Cheers for the info mate!

      • Xiaomi Redmi 3S is HD screen not FHD on the rest you mentioned

    • I got a Mipad 1 last month for $164 for travel and for my son. Pretty good for the price. Only issue is it still works on android 4.4. Fine for now but maybe a issue in the future. If you are looking for a cheap tablet this is the best.

    • Check which version of Android it will run. Older versions I think. Excellent screen.

  • Such timing!
Just broke the screen on the Oneplus one yesterday and the quotes is $130 for original screen replacement.

The question is would I mind not having NFC on the Note 3 pro prime(with or without B28)?

    • You can buy replacement screens for about $50-60AUD and tools needed for an extra $2-5.

Takes about 2 hours to replace, fairly easy, moderate technical skill/caution required.

      No tards need apply.

      • That is one option I am considering. The cheapest original screen (the corning gorilla glass one) I found is $70 but will take quite a while to get here.

Yes, you request it unopened and then flash the Global Stable ROM yourself.

        • Yep :)
